Orange Pi RV RISC-V SBC with StarFive JH7110 SoC launched for $30 and up

The Orange Pi RV SBC powered by a StarFive JH7110 RISC-V SoC was first introduced at the Orange Pi Development Conference 2024, a little over one year ago. But somehow, the company first launched the Orange Pi RV2 SBC based on Ky X1 SoC (rebranded Spacemit K1) earlier this month, and has only started taking orders for the Orange Pi RV board.

The credit card-sized SBC ships with 2GB to 8GB RAM, supports M.2 NVMe SSD storage, provides gigabit Ethernet, built-in WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0, four USB 3.0 ports, HDMI and MIPI DSI video interface, a MIPI CSI camera interface, a 40-pin GPIO header, and more.

Orange Pi StarFive JH7110 SBC Orange Pi RV SBC bottom sideOrange Pi provides support for Linux, and the product page points to a Debian folder on Google Drive that’s currently empty. The user manual, PDF schematics, and tools should also soon be released, but right now all icons on the Download section are placeholders.

I’m not sure what releasing another JH7110 credit card-sized SBC brings to the market in 2025. We already have the Milk-V Mars and Geniatech XPI-7110 in a very similar form factor, and other boards with more features like the StarFive Vision 2. Having said that, JH7110 upstream status is now much better than a few years ago, with most features implemented in mainline u-boot and Linux, which won’t be the case for the Ky X1/SpacemIT K1 right now. Orange Pi is also pretty good at optimizing costs, and the Orange Pi RV sells for the same price as the Orange Pi RV2.

    1. It’s your adblocker. Some filters will remove all aliexpress dot com links from CNX Software.

One example is the Ultimate Ad Filter with the following line:

      1. Excellent… when ad blocking is confused with censorship… I’m seeing a huge difference between visual distraction and links that I’m free to click or not!

        1. That’s because I had/have some banner(s) with an aliexpress link, and I often change the website to mitigate the effects of adblockers. That’s the only way they found to block that specific banner. Sadly, it also breaks some articles.

      2. You are right, it is the adblock. But I have seen Aliexpress links in your articles before. Something has changed. Anyway, I’d rather block Amazon 🙂

    1. LoL, I had a train of thought about the Mars board getting Ubuntu Server support from Canonical, but I cancelled it, and I forgot I had written a few words about it…

  1. Really nice set of hardware ports + Allwinner PMU
Wonder what the software support in mainline/upstream?

  2. HDMI 2.0 up to 4K @ 30 Hz

By definition, HDMI 2.0 is supposed to support 60Hz, so is this really HDMI 2.0 or 1.4?

Or is there something else reducing the bandwidth of the port?
