Raspberry Pi 5 edge AI computer ships with 8GB RAM, Hailo-8 AI module, supports Frigate NVR

Seeed Studio’s reComputer AI R2130-12 is an Edge AI computer with a Raspberry Pi 5 SBC with 8GB RAM and a Hailo-8 module with 26 TOPS of AI performance, suitable for video analytics, machine vision, and intelligent edge computing.

The computer comes with a HAT+ with two M.2 sockets, one occupied by the Hailo-8 AI accelerator and the other available for an M.2 NVMe SSD. In some ways, it’s just a nicely packaged Raspberry Pi 5 SBC with Hailo-8 AI accelerator that we reviewed last year.

reComputer AI R2130-12 specifications

Seeed Studio says Raspberry Pi OS and Ubuntu are supported. Sadly, there’s not proper documentaiton at this time, but the company still shared an interesting demo showing the Raspberry Pi 5 AI computer running Frigate open-source NVR solution with AI acceleration from the Hailo-8 module.

Seeed Studio also shared a benchmark for multistream inference at 720p, but it was hard to get much detail apart from they used RTSP…  The results still show the system can handle 4 video streams at 16.94 FPS when the Raspberry Pi 5 is configured with to use the Hailo-8 at PCIe Gen3 speeds, and the company claims up to eight video streams can be supported.

The company plans to send a sample to us at the end of the month, and hopefully there will be more information and instructions to reproduce the Frigate demo and benchmark above by the time we work on it.

The reComputer AI R2130-12 can be pre-ordered on Seeed Studio for $249. The company also plans to launch an industrial-grade version with the Raspberry Pi 5, RTC, PoE, 4G/LoRa, and TPM in the next few months for $279.

    1. Google Coral only delivers 4 TOPS, while the Hailo-8 module used here delivers up to 26 TOPS so it should be more powerful.
