UP Xtreme i14 Edge – An Ubuntu 24.04 Pro industrial mini PC powered by Intel Core Ultra “Meteor Lake” SoC

UP Xtreme i14 Edge is an industrial fanless mini PC preloaded with an Ubuntu Pro-validated Ubuntu 24.04 Linux distribution and powered by an Intel Core Ultra 5/7 “Meteor Lake” SoC with up to 64GB LPDDR5.

The device is based on the UP Xtreme i14 SBC we covered last June, and comes with M.2 PCIe sockets for NVMe SSD, a SATA port, 2.5GbE and GbE interfaces, support for WiFi and 4G LTE/5G wireless modules, four 8K capable video output ports (HDMI, DP, and USB-C), and three USB Type-A ports, but is housed in a fanless metal enclosure with two RS232/RS485 DB9 connectors and an externally-accessible terminal block for GPIO signals.

Intel Core Ultra Meteor Lake mini PC RS232 RS485

While the mini PC comes preloaded with Ubuntu 24.04 with a Ubuntu Pro License, AAEON also mentions support for Windows 10/11 (64-bit) and Ubuntu 22.04 with Linux 6.5 and up. You’ll find instructions to get started and more technical details on the wiki for the SBC and mini PC.

The design is very similar to the UP Xtreme i11 Edge mini PC I reviewed with Ubuntu 20.04 in 2022. Everything worked out of the box and each GPIO could be configured in the BIOS. My only complain was the noisy fan on top of the “fanless” metal enclosure, but it’s not used on the Xtreme i14 Edge mini PC.

AAEON computers are usually priced higher than your typical consumer-grade mini PC, and the UP Xtreme i14 Edge “Computing Kit” goes for $1,299 with an Intel Core Ultra 7 155H, 32GB LPDDR5, and a 256GB NVMe SSD preloaded with Ubuntu 24.04 “Pro” OS. Additional information may also be found on the product page.
