Renesas has recently introduced the CCE4511 four-channel IO-Link master IC and the ZSSC3286 IO-Link-ready dual-channel sensor signal conditioner IC along with their development boards designed for harsh industrial environments. The CCE4511 master IC supports four channels with 500mA driving current, overvoltage detection, and overcurrent protection, Additionally, it has an integrated IO-Link Frame Handler that reduces microcontroller load.
The ZSSC3286on is the first sensor signal conditioner with an integrated IO-Link compliant stack, meaning you don’t need a separate microcontroller for signal handling. Additionally, it features 24-bit ADCs and advanced diagnostic functions for advanced tasks. Both products are optimized for industrial automation, offering energy efficiency, smaller PCB sizes, and robust system diagnostics.

IO-Link is an open, bi-directional, and point-to-point (P2P) industrial communication protocol based on the IEC 61131-9 standard using 3-wire cabling. MachineMetrics further explains:
IO-Link is an industrial communications protocol that connects sensors and actuators to next-level or higher-level controllers like PLCs. This enables communication between an automation system and sensors and devices. IO-Link performs very well in a digital environment because it is both bi-directional and point-to-point.

There are tens of thousands of IO-Link sensors on the market that enable users to capture equipment and environmental conditions, such as ambient temperature, humidity, and coolant levels. This ensures manufacturers have access to key data points that may not be accessible via a direct connection to machine control.
Renesas has announced two development boards for the CCE4511 IC and the ZSSC3286 ICs which come all together in a devkit, the CCE4511 evaluation board features 8 channels with M12 A-Coded IO-Link connectors and an optional Class B power supply for all IO-Link channels. Additionally, it has two CCE4511 IO-Link master transceiver ICs, with two status LED indicators per channel and external NMOS for power switching of connected devices. The board also comes with additional onboard protection circuitry, power LED indicators, a Pmod Type 2A interface for configuration and channel control, UART interface pin headers for direct control of each channel, and a +3.3V power select jumper.
The company has also announced the ZSSC3286 evaluation kit which contains the ZSSC3286 evaluation board, SSC communication board, SSC sensor replacement board, CCE4510 IO-Link master board, RH4Z2501-PMOD board, ZSSC3286 samples (5 pcs.), USB and IO-Link cables and much more.
The two boards can be used together in an IO-Link ecosystem, where the CCE4511 board acts as the master to manage the IO-Link communication, while the ZSSC3286 evaluation kit provides the tools to develop and evaluate sensor devices that communicate via the IO-Link protocol.
The CCE4511 four-channel IO-Link master IC is priced at $4.675 per unit when purchased in quantities of 2,000. Meanwhile, the ZSSC3286BI3R sensor signal conditioner IC is available for $9.03 per unit individually. For development and testing purposes, the CCE4511 evaluation board goes for $185.11, and the ZSSC3286KIT evaluation kit for $303.16. All these products are available for purchase through DigiKey. Further details may be found on the CCE4511 and ZSSC3286 product pages.
