Ugoos SK1 8K Android TV box with Dolby Vision comes with Amlogic S928X-K SoC, 8GB LPDDR4, 128GB eMMC flash

Ugoos SK1 8K Android TV box is based on the Amlogic S928X-K penta-core Cortex-A76/A55 SoC with 8GB LPDDR4, a 128GB eMMC flash, and support for Dolby Vision HDR.

The SK1 model follows the Ugoos AM8 model introduced last year with the Amlogic S928X-J processor, 4GB LPDDR4, and 32GB eMMC flash. The new model provides additional licenses with the S928X-K SoC and more resources that should be suitable for more than just watching 8K videos, and some games and other apps could easily run on the device.

  1. Pretty sure that the AM8 model has Dolby Vision licence, too. Mostly because the find folks at CoreELEC has busying themselves with it after sorting the AM6b+.

Anyway, yes, I think it’s pretty much certain that any ‘-J’ or ‘-K’ chip has the license on the S922X / S928X platforms.

    1. It’s difficult to find information about the licenses. When I first wrote about the AM8, I mentioned Dolby Vision, but when I go to the product page on the Ugoos website it’s been removed, and I can only see a reference to “Dolby Audio”.

If I remember correctly, Kodi has the ability to use Dolby and DTS even on machines without proper licenses.

      1. the AM8 supports Dolby Vision , and use Kodi 21 for playback. However, the AM8 lacks DTS:X licensing

        1. Thanks. Now I can see the changelog for the latest firmware for the AM8 and AM8 Pro with the following lines:

          Added Dolby Vision mode setting

Dolby Vision enabled for 8K resolutions and 100-120Hz display modes

  2. Such a shame that these boxes are still sticking with the 1x USB 3.0 and 1x USB 2.0 ports. All that potential to expand I/O capability but stuck in the past.

If were were talking about a £$50 box then maybe but at over $200, poor.

  3. This chip no longer supports FEL, so why spend so much money buying this box,the AM8 is good enough

  4. I think that a chipset like this is something Google & defacto Netflix should have certified too. Why not let people experience speed and quality of a new platform, that until now only an Nvidia shield could provide, at least in terms of premium legal content.

Infact I think we will try and launch a premium unit based on this chipset or similar, as we believe this bottomed out market approach is running out of steam.

Also Smart Home and Cloud/Augmented Gaming are not going to get less in future… It’s worth looking at!

    Thanks

    1. If there’s an Amazon Fire Cube 2024 released this year, it may possibly be equipped with the S928x, potentially replacing the Shield.

  5. SK1 has no microsd slot, and am8 (with the chipset s928x-j) also supports Dolby Atmos, Dolby vision and dts-hd. You can check both the updated specs on SK1 product page, and my new review.

  6. Ugoos sk1 8k streaming divice not support OTT and Amazon prime and Hotstar sound not supporting Dolby Atmos and Netflix and apple tv not play company need to take care about it otherwise what is the purpose for this product make for what
