Raspberry Pi CM4-based industrial panel PC adds 4G LTE, RS232 and RS485, M.2 NVMe SSD

EDATEC ED-HMI2120-101C is a Raspberry Pi CM4-based industrial panel PC with a 10.1-inch capacitive touchscreen display with plenty of interfaces to cater to a wide range of use cases from robotics to energy management and industrial automation.

The panel PC builds upon the ED-HMI2020-101C introduced just a few months ago, but adds a range of features with dual Ethernet, RS485 and RS232 interfaces, and optional supports for an M.2 NVMe SSD and 4G LTE cellular connectivity. The device now supports an even wider DC input range from 9V to 36V and provides three 12V DC outputs to power external hardware such as an additional LCD.

As shown in the long specifications and block diagram above, the panel PC’s design is starting to get rather complex with so many features, but I’d assume EDATEC must have had requests from their customers to add the extra features within the panel PC.

Just like the previous model, the ED-HMI2120-101C industrial panel PC runs Raspberry Pi OS on the Raspberry Pi CM4 module with extra drivers for features that are not supported out of the box by the default OS. As noted in the previous article, the display does not have any ingress protection (IP) rating so it’s not suitable in environments where the front panel may be exposed to liquids as with some competing RPi CM4 panel PCs such as the ComfilePi CPi-C070WR4C or WIN Enterprises PL-50300 which are rated IP67.

EDATEC sells samples of the ED-HMI2120-101C on Aliexpress for $269 plus shipping although it’s unclear which exact configuration they are selling there…  More information may be found on the product page.

  1. I have purchased two for testing on two separate projects. They seem very good and, with the SSD boot, very quickly.
They are also going to add CANBUS support soon.
I’ll not get a change to play until the second week of November.
