    1. It’s probably just the storage options they offer and not a limitation of the hardware.

        1. Now that the product page is up (added to post as well), the specifications seem to confirm your hypothesis:

          1x M.2 2280 PCIe Gen 4 x4 SSD, support up to 2TB 1x M.2 2242 SATA SSD slot, expandable up to 1TB

1x 2.5″ SATA HDD (7mm) slot, expandable up to 2TB

          1. > 1x M.2 2280 PCIe Gen 4 x4 SSD, support up to 2TB

Makes no sense since currently there exist ~70 different M.2 SSD models with larger capacities than 2TB, majoritiy of them Gen4 capable.

          2. if it’s a ~2021 started development (and a kept description for an objective agreement) it would inform about that date (affordable) upper limits for 2280/2242 form factor (while for 2023 even 2242 is (at least) up to 2TB capacity, AFAIR)

or this limit is connected to Windows (unless forced to GPT, UEFI and 64bit Windows versions) there’s a limitation for system storage, initialized with MBR partition scheme, to 32bit (512B sectors) storage addressing that resulting to partitions having 2TB at most (but makes no sense for 2242’s 1TB)

    2. Probably either they’re quoting old documentation for the controller, or old support information from Microsoft, or it’s simply what they have on offer. You can attach larger SATA drives, ie 8TB SSD if you can afford it. Or even full size HDDs if you have an external enclosure and molex power adapter. Though rotating rust is so 2022…

      1. > You can attach larger SATA drives, ie 8TB SSD if you can afford it

The height of the older IT12’s 2.5″ drive bay is limited to 7 mm. If this is the same with this new box then you can fit SATA SSDs inside even with 16TB but no HDDs with a capacity higher than 2TB.
