JX1 Intel Celeron N5105 mini PC places all ports on the rear panel

There’s a plethora of mini PCs on the market, but due to their size, the ports are often placed on several sides which may make cable management troublesome. The JX1 mini PC, equipped with an Intel Celeron N5105 Jasper Lake processor, does not have this issue since all ports are accessible on the rear panel.

The computer ships with 8GB RAM, up to 256GB SSD, and the rear panel comes with two USB Type-C port, one for power only, a Gigabit Ethernet port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, an HDMI ports, and three USB 3.0 ports. You’ll still find the power button on the front panel, and wireless connectivity is supported through a WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 module.

  1. Having all ports on the same side is not necessarily a benefit. It can, for a board that you want to embed into any device, like many SBCs. But for a finished consumer product you generally prefer to have permanently connected cables on the rear side, and occasional ones on the front (i.e. a pair of USB connectors).

Also I suspect that the 12V/3A means, like for the MeLE equivalent, that the power adapter will happily deliver 12V to whatever poor USB-C device it’s plugged into. There is a real danger in letting fake USB-C adapters proliferate like this 🙁

  2. Hi, I like SBCs, I’ve had several. With its multiple advantages of price, consumption,… Now the SBCs claim to be standard computers, but their prices have skyrocketed, they cannot compete with a computer like this with N5100, its RAM, its SSD,… I don’t understand this evolution . I would like to see SBC again with a normal price, even if its computing power is Rpi 4.

    1. Another approach is to buy the better N5105 for the price of an SBC. With that said, some SBCs (especially rock5b with RK3588) are more powerful than this device for certain workloads despite running at a lower frequency, that must still be considered. But in general I agree with your point.

      1. I have seen several reviews of the rk3558 and it has surprised me, maybe it will work for a home PC… I want to see Orange Pi 5 analysis, good price, I have had an Orange Pi and I liked it.

    2. Or you could buy second hand business mini-pc like elitedesk, thinkcentre, or optiplex. $160 should nett you ~ i5 6th/7th 8GB, 256GB.

      1. In my opinion, before, second-hand PCs were a good option. Now, mini PCs have dropped a lot in price and high performance, with reduced consumption. Now I prefer mini pc, and thinking if directly sbc (rk3558 type) as my home pc.

    1. I’m not sure that qualifies as a typo anymore. The second one is actually a user manual in English 🙂

  3. When you consider these include case, power supply, ssd and working Operating system.
If Intel gave them full AV1 etc support, some SBC would seem poor value.

  4. Checking its webpage the JX1 is not only already “Sold Out” but the far more expensive recommended replacements makes me wonder if they’re just taking the piss.
