San Francisco, U.S. – Dec. 8, 2021- at RISC-V Summit 2021, StarFive Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter “StarFive”), the leader of RISC-V software and hardware ecosystem in China, announced that “VisionFive” single-board computer is officially for sale. The availability of VisionFive signifies a breakthrough in RISC-V hardware for high-end applications to help accelerate the innovations of the global RISC-V industry and promote the improvement and development of the open-source software ecosystem to drive the realization of more innovative top-layer RISC-V applications.
VisionFive open-source hardware enables a new level of innovation for the RISC-V ecosystem
VisionFive, the first generation of cost-effective RISC-V single-board computer is designed to run Linux, with StarFive’s JH7100 vision processing SoC. The JH7100 SoC is equipped with a 64-bit high-performance RISC-V dual-core processor with a 2MB L2 cache, running at 1.5GHz, which is excellent for high-performance computing. The JH7100 SoC is further equipped with the deep learning processing engine and image/video processing sub-systems that enables VisionFive to meet the real-time visual processing needs at the edge. Developers can utilize these features to deploy intelligent vision application systems.
Compared with other RISC-V development boards, VisionFive is of high performance, affordable, and easy to use. It is equipped with 8GB RAM, 40 pin GPIO header, and end-to-end hardware and software infrastructure, which makes it convenient and flexible for developers to configure and deploy peripherals, and build a dedicated application running environment. It is priced at $149, significantly lowering the threshold for mid-to-high-end RISC-V applications development.
VisionFive marks the first journey for the continuous innovation of StarFive products. It is designed to meet the strong demand and expectations for the RISC-V application development boards desired by the industry. Meanwhile, it is of great significance to strengthen the RISC-V hardware supply chain and enhance the evolution of the overall RISC-V ecosystem. The next-generation StarFive VisionFive SBC is already in development, and it will be released in 2022. It will be equipped with the new generation of StarFive JH7110 SoC which comes with integrated GPU modules, richer high-speed interfaces, and upgraded performance.
Launching of an open-source community forum to improve the RISC-V ecosystem
RISC-V open-source hardware relies on a flourishing ecosystem made possible by developers’ contributions. Community forum, the platform for developers to initiate projects, conduct technical discussions, and communications, plays an important role in ecosystem growth. RVspace, a new RISC-V open-source community dedicated to global developers, is launching today. RVspace provides global users and open-source partners with a platform to bridge ideas and technical support, to promote the development of RISC-V software and hardware ecosystem.
Sponsored by StarFive, with the commitment to community development, RVspace offers all resources including documentation, technical discussion, and source code. Immediately after launching, developers will have access to necessary information for development and the technical support for software and hardware related to VisionFive. The technical manuals of VisionFive will be uploaded to RVspace, and the source codes will be made available via GitHub as well.
Launching the RVspace and VisionFive together will actively promote the coordinated development of the RISC-V ecosystem. Developers, manufacturers, and partners can directly communicate and collaborate on this platform, lowering the barrier of entry for RISC-V applications development, and accelerating the launch and implementation of open-source projects.

It’s the same board that I wrote about a couple of weeks ago: https://www.cnx-software.com/2021/11/27/visionfive-v1-risc-v-linux-sbc-resurrects-beaglev-single-board-computer/
Ohhhhhhhhh …
Can you remove my post then?
I tried to apply for one for application porting two weeks ago but didn’t get any single response (not even “sorry we’re not interested in your use case”). So I don’t even know if the registration form on their site works at all, which is annoying considering that they’re reusing the exact same for ordering :-/
I suspect that the product is not finished yet and that they’re waiting to try to finish it before starting to engage with developers or customers. I’ll still wait for a response before trying my luck again, because leaving contacts in a form and being told “someone will eventually contact you” with no delay information is particularly unpleasant, I find myself checking my spambox daily just in case…
You may comment in the forum post. I saw they got quick responses in the forum.
Hi Willy,
This is Selina from StarFive. Thanks for your interest on VisionFive. We are collecting developers’ wills before our distributors open their purchasing page. Since today is the first day we are announcing VisionFive, the sales information will not be updated before the official announcement. Thank you for your patience, our sales team is working hard on offically launching the purchasing page and giving updates to all developers who registered their wills.
OK thank you Selina! Its just that the process leaves some uncertainty for the people who fill the form since we don’t know if we were supposed to receive a mail that was lost or if it’s for later, and since we do not even get a confirmation that the request was registered, we’re left in doubt. Ideally just sending back an automated e-mail confirming the registration and saying on the form “a message was sent to confirm your registration” would suffice.
Same for me, still waiting for a response.
Still no news from them as of today. The announce was 6 days ago. This more and more looks like vaporware. They had to announce something at the summit i guess.
lol, just as i posted this, they’ve just added information in their forum. There’s a link to a site where you can buy the board, shop.allnetchina.cn. But the boards aren’t expected to ship (at best?) before january 20th.
I wonder what was the point of registering..
I mean for us. I understand perfectly the point for them to gather emails of interested people.
From dead effort to expand Beagle series with something else than TI parts to sponsoring post about v2 board that’s ready to ship in such a short time. “Parkour!”
Update on this: I received a message today from the sales team at StarFive mentioning a previous mail that I apparently didn’t receive.
I looked in my spam box and found that they had sent two messages, one on December 31th and one on Jan 8th, but from a misconfigured mail relay that was using a non-existing host name in the HELO field, hence the message being marked as a spam (they should have resent them after fixing the configuration problem). The message from 8th contained a link to order the board, its price has increased to $175 now:
https://shop.allnetchina.cn/collections/starfive/products/starfive-visionfive-ai-single-board-computer
Still no mention about the developers program though, so I don’t know what my request for a test board became, beyond serving to fill an e-mail database. Others who applied for a board should also look at their spam box, in case they received a positive response.
All this is rather unusual communication, asking for requests that are ignored without even responding. For now I’m not confident that there is anything very serious behind, and I’m not going to order one at this price just to participate to RISCV’s porting :-/
Now on Aliexpress $202
