UGOOS AM7 Android 11 TV box with Amlogic S905X4, WiFi 6 is up for pre-order

When Ugoos AM6B Plus 2021 TV box was introduced with Amlogic S922X-J and WiFi 6, we noted the company was working on UGOOS AM7, a more affordable TV box that also supports WiFi 6, and comes with the latest Android 11 running on Amlogic S905X4 processor with 4K AV1 video playback.

UGOOS AM7 is now available for pre-order on Aliexpress for around $128 including shipping. The device includes 4GB RAM, 32GB eMMC flash, 4K HDR video output at up to 60 Hz, Gigabit Ethernet, WiFI 6, and Bluetooth 5.0.

Android 11 TV Box WiFI 6

The TV box runs Android 11.0 with Google Play, OTA firmware updates, and ships with a Bluetooth remote control with voice search and gyroscope by default.  The firmware also comes with the usual “Ugoos Settings” that include root on/off, SAMBA server, wireless assistant (mobile remote control app), gamepad settings, hardware monitor, support for custom user scripts, etc… You can check Ugoos AM6 review for a look at some of those settings. The main advantage of going with WiFi 6 is the ability to steam 4K video over WiFi without buffering.

Note that you’ll pay significantly more than for the comparable Mecool KM6 Deluxe ($80 on Aliexpress) that is still at Android 10, but for specific use cases like business, Android 11 and the custom options may make sense. The 12-minute video shows an unboxing and a first boot (not an actual review) which reveals the standard Android 11 launcher, and not Android 11 for Android TV launcher.

  1. Wow, a device with a simple S905X4 for $128? it’s a little bit too high, isn’t it? at least it would have to have 8GB of RAM and 128GB of eMMC for that price. In fact, you can get a device with that SoC and more memory for half the price in the same aliexpress with Android 11 as well, so I don’t really know why that price.

    1. Have you been living off the grid and without an internet connection for the past year and a half? There’s a global parts shortage and everything is going up in price.

      1. Only for selected brands? as I stated, aliexpress is currently selling tv boxes with better specs with half the price, people is buying NOW. I don’t know how to reply to that 🙁

    2. Ugoos have always tended to be a bit more expensive but their Android builds do seem to be superior.

Build quality is also likely to be more consistent and the specs on this are better than any current S905X4 out there.

But, right now I would still expect many to make comparison with the likes of the Odroid N2+ and even the Beelink GH-King, with the faster SOC.

What really lets the AM7 down for me is the measly 32Gb storage.

    3. Does somebody take a look on datasheets? The soc cant address more than 4gb. Neither have 3 usb 3.0 interfaces like this tv box want to expose (SHARED then)

      1. Quite right. Mind you just what really needs more than 4GB on a Android TV box ?

Are people doing 4K video editing on S905X3/S905X4 chips in Android, on TV boxes?

Buy your loved RK3366 or Toaster marketed as a 8GB RPI ?

8bit ZX Spectrum used memory banking to get past the 64k limit, but is memory banking worth it, cost effective or really useable on 4GB limit chips?

  2. Still, nothing new has come out yet in the tv box category, S905X4….it’s like…..it came out like almost 2 years ago?

If you want a decent TV box for the money and the best chipset that I am aware of would be and still is the Nvidia shield tv pro, it may cost more….but if you bought this ugoos which I would consider outdated technology before they even produced the plans to build it, then you probably would feel better paying a little more for a tv box that won’t be outdated anytime soon and will always be compatible with all streaming services at 4k and Nvidia is always updating it.

Only drawback is the lack of hdmi 2.1 as of yet, hopefully Nvidia will come up with a new refresh later this year or next that will have the hdmi 2.1 and possibly an updated chipset since Nvidia has already said that they will not produce anymore of the older chipsets and also an updated Nintendo switch has already been mentioned, it will be updating to a newer chipset on the next model, but not the oled model that will be released later this year. Switch 2 I suppose?
