One Netbook OneGx1 Mini Laptop Supports WiFi 6, 4G LTE or 5G Connectivity

We’ve seen plenty of mini laptops with 6″ to 9″ displays in the last couple of years, mainly from GPD and One Netbook, and to a lesser extend from CHUWI.

But so far, I had not seen one with 5G connectivity, and the latest One Netbook OneGx1 mini laptop with a 7″ display and powered by an Amber Lake processor, does offer a 5G model, besides its WiFi 6 and 4G LTE variants.

OneGx1 5G Mini Laptop
A mini “Dell Alienware-like” laptop

The mini laptop runs Microsoft Windows 10, and ships with a charger and an English user manual. OneGx1 can either be used as a tiny laptop for doing some work and watching videos, but thanks to optional $46 controllers it can be transformed into a portable gaming machine supporting two players.

Brad Linder of Liliputing received a review sample and in his preview notes the laptop performs just fine for basic computing tasks like multi-tab web browsing and GIMP photo editing, as well as some games lightweight games such as Pikuniku, Celeste, or Amnesia: The Dark Descent. However, it’s not quite up to the task for more complex games such as Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate which would run at around 5 to 7 frames per second with the resolution set to the 1280×720 and the lowest graphics settings.

Users can also configure the TDP to lower power consumption and/or the fan noise with three different modes: Performance Mode (15W), Normal Mode ( 10-12W under heavy load), and Mute Mode (2-5W). The latter is a bit of a misnomer as the fan is still rotating albeit almost silently.

Pre-orders have started on Banggood and GeekBuying with the price starting at $839.99 for the 8GB/256GB/WiFi model and up to $1317.99 for the 5G mini laptop with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD. GeekBuying has coupons for the 16GB RAM + 512GB SSD WiFi (GKBGx116) and 4G LTE (GKBGx1164G) models.

  1. A nice idea but at the pitched price point, will likely have a very niche audience.

Some tech seems to be getting more disproportionately expensive than before and this is a good example.

Whilst the cult of Apple can persuade their congregation to sell their souls, this premise seems to have been hijacked by others.

    1. Yeah, small but expensive doesn’t make much sense.

Intel can probably crank out a i5-10210Y for $10, and even if you accept the $292 recommended customer price, it doesn’t add up.
Chuwi seems to be providing reasonably priced competition for this and other laptop form factors.
