While portable displays have been available as far back as at least 2012, they’ve become more popular in recent years as they can both offer a secondary display to your laptop, or add a larger screen to your smartphone.
In the last two years, we’ve already covered BlitzWolf BW-PCM1, T-bao T15A, TAIHE Gemini (which ended up being a failure), Airview, and Desklab among others. But apparently, there’s room for more with the launch of AirTab, a 15.6″ portable touchscreen or non-touch monitor, on Kickstarter that’s already surpassed its $10,000 funding target.
AirTab specifications:
- 15.6″ display with 1920×1080 resolution up to 60 Hz refresh rate; 4ms response time; 256 cd/m2 brightness
- Touchscreen – Air Touch model only
- USB – 2x USB-C ports
- Power Supply –
- Dimensions – 335 x 245 x 4.9 mm
- Weight – 500 grams
AirTab comes with a foldable magnetic cover that allows the display to be used in landscape mode, portrait mode, and “creation” mode.
The company already sent some review samples to several websites, and NotebookCheck notes that while the display mostly behaved as advertised, it did not come with a power adapter, and was particularly dim, especially when not using a user adapter. There’s no HDMI or DisplayPort inputs, not audio features like built-in speakers either. That means it’s better suited for indoor use, and devices with a USB-C port with Displayport Alt mode.
Rewards start at $179 for on AirTab display with USB-C cable and magnetic cover. The retail price is expected to be $299. Shipping adds $16 to $39 depending on the country of destination, and backers can expect their reward(s) to be shipped in October 2020.

I think I’d rather buy this https://www.asus.com/Monitors/MB16AP/
Interesting but what mode of usb-c is in use? Sounds like they use usb???
It’s DisplayLink, something entirely different than DisplayPort (USB-C Alt mode): https://www.cnx-software.com/2019/01/20/taihe-gemini-4k-portable-display/#comment-560064
Doesn’t the Asus screen use both DP Alt Mode and Displaylink mode depending on the device it is connected to?
“*When in DP alt mode with 100% brightness setting (If connect to USB signal, the battery life is around 3 hours.)”
“Hybrid-signal solution: USB Type-A and Type-C support

The reversible, any-way-up USB-C design enables quick, hassle-free connection to any device.
chinese are again trying to sell existing products overpriced
Looks like Viewsonic beat them to the market, at better prices to boot. Also available next month, not October.
