Android 9.0 TV boxes based on Rockchip RK3328 processor started to become available at the end of last month for $45 and up, but if you’d like a cheaper Android 9 TV box either for playing videos or as an inexpensive device to test apps with Google’s latest version of Android, MX10 MINI might be worth a look, as it sells for $29.99 plus shipping on Aliexpress.

We are at the end of 2018 and boxes like this one are shipping with 100 MBit ethernet… Such a shame to cut corners like this. I am not even mentioning 16 GB of internal storage. I know we are not supposed to install many apps on it, but Kodi can take up an impressive amount of space (in time).
Do you seriously think the extra 16 32 64GB represents a benefit in today’s environment (when one movie in good quality can take up to 30-50GB) ? 8GB eMMC is enough for all devices with rk3328. Everything else is implemented via USB 3.0 port. It is much cheaper and more reasonable to connect at least 500GB external drive. Here is the port 100Mb network is really bad.
Odd Netflix and Amazon etc do well streaming video and drive the market. Sure Netflix needs Authorized hardware for highest resolution but the market is for streaming rather than a Nas full of pirated Blu-rays. If you have the Blu-rays, play them on the Blu-rays player. Problem solved, no 30GB file needed.
16GB is not that bad. just add a good and fast SD card. 100Mbit indeed really s***s

and install SD card to hot card reader = will die very quickly

Gigabit Ethernet increases the BOM costs approximately by 5% (1 buck more for an RTL8211 PHY) so why/how should a product targeting the ‘buy as cheap as possible’ crowd go that way? The only reason to buy this box is the consumer not willing to spend money. Of course networking will be crappy regardless whether wired or wireless. You get what you pay for.
Any chance of running GNU/Linux, maybe ARMBIAN, in this box?

hi guys, whats the best player available in market today after the top class nvidia shield? i need Gigabit ethernet and 4k output and good support, or should we wait and see what 2019 brings.
(although somewhat limited is new mi box S is a good alternative?)
