Xiaomi Mi Box S TV box running Android TV 8.1 launched last month as an upgrade to the popular Xiaomi Mi Box with very similar specifications, but a new remote control, and a cheaper $60 price tag. That means if you already own a working Mi Box you probably don’t want to upgrade, but if you haven’t already that’s a better deal.
There’s one caveat however. It’s only available in the US at Walmart, so if you leave in another part of the world it’s not easily possible to order one, except going via a US forwarder. The good news is that you can now purchase it on GearBest for $55.99 with coupon GBMIBOXS (Note: they only have 1,000 pieces at this price).
Xiaomi Mi Box S specifications as a reminder:

- USB – 1x USB 2.0 port
- Power Supply – 5.2V/2.1A

As I understand it, it’s the exact same model as sold in Walmart, but it ships with only two of the accessories, namely the new improved remote control, and a user manual if the product description is correct. The two batteries and HDMI cable found in the Walmart package are not included.

I’ve just found out the promotion is also time limited (2 days), and will start in about 4 hours:
“Sorry,you can only use this coupon from 2018-11-08 16:00:00 to 2018-11-10 15:00:00”
Yeah cause 11.11 is singles day which is like xmas & black friday at the same time for the Asians 🙂 So expect even better prices on that day.
Maybe for many products, but not sure for that one. They must be selling it at a loss. It’s $60 in Walmart, but GearBest sells it for $56 with international shipping.
Guess time will tell. Wallmart could drop the price to 49 or 39 for Black Friday too. And a loss ? Mi Box is simply a 25$ China Box with S905(X/W/Whatever) 2GB RAM and 8GB (WOW) ROM. Give it another 10 Bucks for the nice remote and 5$ for the Widvine Licensing stuff and there you go. Its no coincidence that the coupon is only valid to 10.11.2018 😉
So finally, I’ve got more information for Nov 11. Price will be the same, but qty increased to 3,000 pieces.
In case the GearBest deal is over, GearVita sells for box for $59.99 with coupon 1111Mi-BoxS @ https://gearvita.com/xiaomi-mi-box-s-tv-box-global-version.html
The H96 Max X2 Amlogic S905X2 you put up a few days ago seems better in every way. Or am I missing something?
You won’t get Netflix HD unless the box is certified (Widevine Level 1).
The H96 Max X2 runs Android, but Xiaomi Mi Box S runs official Android TV, so things like Google Assistant, and most streaming service should fully work out of the box. Like pointed by Greg that means full HD / 4K streaming should work, while on H96 Max X2 maybe not.
I don’t necessarily see one as being better than the other, but instead I see them as different devices.
