Last year, it was relatively easy to find promotions for ultra cheap TV boxes selling for under $20, but with the price increase of flash and RAM chips it has become harder to find.
GearBest has now launched a promotion for Tanix TV boxes, and you could get Tanix TX3 Mini L model with an Amlogic S905W Processor and 2GB RAM for as low as $16.99. The trick is here is that price is only for flash sales with 5 pieces selling for $16.99 at 9:00 UTC until the end of the week. You’ll apparently need to use coupon GBTXL to qualify for the discount.
Note that Flash sale can be frustrating since you’ll be competing with other customer, one trick that may work to get ahead is the add the device to the cart before 9:00, then click on check out at exactly 9:00. If you miss out the price would be $32.99 + shipping, a $4 discount against the “normal price”.

I wouldn’t buy anything without gigabit Ethernet when it comes to 4k video. In theory it should work with 100Mbit, but with gigabit ethernet you can be sure that it doesn’t cause jerky playback.
Also, the Amlogic S9xx chips aren’t well supported by Kodi and OpenElec, because of the lack of of Linux video drivers.
So, if you are planning to play a lot of 4k high bandwidth content, and/or Kodi with plugins, better get something else.
And if you want to watch Netflix in (U)HD, then stay away from cheap Chinese boxes, because all of them lack the necessary DRM certification for Netflix HD playback and download.
If you plan to stay with Android, and only play pirated content and simple games, you’re fine, as long as you don’t need Kodi plugins to play the streams you want.
Be aware, that the remote controls that come with these boxes are absolute crap. You’ll need an air mouse. And don’t buy a too cheap one.
About Netlifx and the need for air mouse I agree, although for the latter it depends. Some people can’t seem to use air mice. Some Chinese box have proper Android certification and DRM support, but few do, and the one in this post most certainly not.
However about Kodi support, LibreELEC supports Amlogic devices just fine. https://forum.libreelec.tv/board/38-amlogic/. Just a general comment, as I could not find specific info about Tanix TX3 MINI L and LibreELEC.
I have a S912 box, and I regret buying it. It came with an older and highly modified version of Kodi, and this is the only one that works. With all newer versions, the colors are off when playing UHD videos. There is no official LibreELEC support for S9x chips, it’s all user made and cobbled together with binary blobs from various sources. It may work or not. It’s a game of chance.
What on earth are you on about. ?
Your info is way way out of date, OpenELEC really – that abandoned project ?
There IS support for LibreELEC and it’s fork called CoreELEC for use on AMLogic S9xx chipsets.
In fact the well sorted LE S905X and S912 Kodi Krypton images play anything you throw at them, and that includes 10bit 4K HDR.
Set a few Kodi settings once and that is it for both SDR and HDR usage.
Game of chance my ass !
The S905 WeTek Hub/Play2 and ODROID C2 have had official LE support now for about two years !
The one thing I do agree on is GigaE is needed for high bitrate 4K network streaming video playback, which S905X and S905W boxes do not have.
Do you know which chipset the Vero 4k+ is using?
It claims The new device adds Gigabit Ethernet
This is literally the TX3 Max box with four new lines on the top shell cover. The box struggles with simple processes, IPTV lags and stutters whether you use ethernet or wifi, no matter your speed. It totes “Alice UX” which is just Tanix renaming Kodi to something new. The box actually does not stream in 60 fps ever. It says it will but will always revert back to 30fps. For me personally I prefer older more powerful boxes that have been maintained and updated from 5.0 all the way to 7.1.2. This for me is the true test on whether or not your box is worth it. Support. Support. More support.
“ALICE UX” has not relation with KODI. Alice UX is a launcher. Added to this, an access to a fork of kodi has been placed at the main screen of the TX3 Max, but you can replace it on to any other APP by pressing “menu” button.
By the way, TX3 Max is better than this “L” specification.
