TS80 USB type-C Soldering Iron Up for Sale for $79.99

TS100 digital programmable soldering iron has been popular in recent years due to its compact size, open source STM32 firmware, fast heating, and it does the job. Another advantage is that the soldering can be powered by a standard 19V laptop power supply.

As noted in a post about a separate soldering pen board with audio jack, the company behind TS100 has been working on a new model called TS80 powered via USB type C port, lighter & more compact, and supporting soldering tips that connect through a typical 3.5mm audio jack. The good news is that TS80 is now available for $89.99 on Sainsmart under the ToolPAC brand. Use TS80 coupon for $10 discount. [Update: TS80 is now sold on Banggood for $72.99 shipped]

You’ll also need a power supply, preferably one compatible with Quick Charge 3.0 (9V/2A) or a QC 3.0 power bank, in order to power the soldering iron through its USB-C receptacle.

The STM32 MCU helps regulating “sleep”, “standby”, and “operating” modes, updates the OLED screen, and just like for TS100, the firmware will be open source. I could not find it yet, but it may eventually be posted on minidso forum, or directly on the manufacturer website (miniware aka “Guangzhou e-Design Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd”).

  1. I find the type-C connector much less interesting than the TS100’s jack. Type-C requires a heavy and relatively rigid cable that causes difficulties for small operations. It’s also difficult to power it on batteries. On my TS100, I’ve plugged a very thin and very soft cable that I connect to anything (12V, 19V, 2S to 4S battery), that makes it extremely convenient. However I find the TS80 with its jack very attractive. I’d just like to have it with a 2.1mm jack for the power input 🙂

  2. I love it but really worried if the Type C is implemented properly, so many Chinese devices get it wrong causing overcurrent draw or only working when the plug is inserted one way

    1. I guess to solder you just need power and the mode negotiation… Still overkill for a use case where a barrel plug or worst case some m12 or milspec clone would have fit the bill.

Make it high tech at any cost, else it’s not iot neither industry 4.0 and where is 5g to ensure autonomous soldering can be supported. Oh and as its iot you better bring some drone to the equation. 😛 lol now im done charging my phone with usb c and full speed usb.

  3. I finally bought it from SainSmart. Banggood is only for preorder. I don’t know when the TS80 will be shippied from Banggood. I will received my new TS80 soldering in this week. I can’t wait to test it.
