Gemini Lake mini PCs are starting to sell and ship, and from the look of it, HP t430 appears to be yet another Gemini Lake mini PC based on an Intel Celeron N4000 processor.
But the device is actually a thin client that has been designed to work with a single USB type C cable for power, video and audio.
HP t430 specifications:
- SoC – Intel Celeron N4000 dual core processor @ 1.1 GHz / 2.4 GHz with Intel UHD Graphics 600
- System Memory – Up to 4GB DDR4 RAM
- Storage – 16 GB to 32 GB Flash memory
- Display – HDMI, DisplayPort 1.2, USB type C DisplayPort Alt-mode
- Audio – Headphone/microphone mini-jack
- Networking – Gigabit Ethernet, and WLAN
- USB – 3x USB type A ports, 1x USB type C (DisplayPort 1.2, USB 3.1, charging)
- Misc – Power button, Kensington lock
- Power Supply – 19V DC, 45 W, worldwide auto-sensing, 100-240 VAC, 50-60 Hz, energy saving automatic power-down, surge tolerant external adapter
- Dimensions – 13.5 x 13.5 x 3.2 cm
- Weight – 0.74 kg
Single cable operation is possible with a compatible USB type C monitor, WiFi connectivity, and the included HP USB slim business keyboard and HP USB optical mouse. But you can obviously connect more cables including Ethernet, HDMI and DisplayPort if needed.
The thin client can run Linux based HP ThinPro or Windows 10 IoT Enterprise for Thin Clients, supports Citrix HDX, Citrix ICA, Microsoft RDP, Microsoft RFX, VMware Horizon View through PCoIP or RDP protocols, and comes with HP software like device manager, easy sheel, smart zero client services, and so on.
HP t430 will come with a 3-year limited warranty, and while it’s not available yet, you could register to get notified on the product page.

> Single cable operation is possible with a compatible USB type C monitor, WiFi connectivity
Not necessarily Wi-Fi since a couple of those displays has integrated Gigabit Ethernet (even my old Thunderbolt Display from 2011) and/or an internal USB3 hub where an el cheapo RTL8153 GbE dongle can always be attached to.
Also keep in mind that the monitor needs to be able to deliver enough power over the USB-C port. Not all USB-C ports are the same or support power delivery.
It gets even worse since even if the display supports USB PD profiles 4 or 5 (60/65 W and 100W) without an appropriate USB-C cable the display will only provide up to 15W (5V/3A: USB-C maximum without USB PD support)
I expect/hope HP will offer a matching HP monitor with this nice small box
