Vidonn X6 Activity Tracker Promises Up to 15 days Battery Life

I reviewed Vidonn X5 fitness tracker last yet, and I found many issues or letdowns: battery life is too short (2 days), the digits are much smaller than advertized, the screen cannot be read under direct sunlight, a button must be pressed to check the time, the smartband is not as waterproof as advertized, and the Android app is a disaster. Despite all these issues, I still wear it everyday, as it helps me walk or run a bit more if I have not reached my daily target. The company has now release a new model Vidoon X6 that I discovered today on DealExtreme for $33.90.

Vidonn_X6Vidonn X6 specifications:

  • MCU/Memory – Unknown
  • Display – 0.88″ OLED display (vs 0.49″ for X5)
  • Connectivity –  Bluetooth 4.0 LE and micro USB
  • Battery – 45 mAh Li-battery (vs 40 mAh) good for 15 days in standby mode.
  • IP Rating – IP65 (Dust-proof and waterproof to water jets)
  • Misc – Sensor Button, and Vibrator
  • Dimensions – 60 mm wrist diameter  x 16 mm width x 9.5 mm thickness
  • Weight – About 20 grams

The smartand comes with a 20 cm USB charging cable, and a user’s manual in English.

So we’ve got a bigger display, and a slightly beefier 45 mAh battery. Based on Vidonn X5, which claimed 4 days on a charge, which end-up being 2 days in actual use, the 15 days standby time might be 7 days, and probably closer to 3 to 5 days in typical use when a user checks the time or fitness data on the display from time to time. The bigger display also allows for caller ID and message (SMS, Facebook, Twitter) notifications that were not implement on X5 due to the smaller display, and they have improved the motion algorithm which is probably not a bad things. For instance, after running 10 kilometres Vidonn X5 reports around 8,500 steps, something quite unlikely, especially at the slow pace I run, so hopefully X6 has more accurate measurements. The button on X5 is quite hard to press, and they seem to have replaced it with a touch button on X6, which can only be an improvement.

Other features appear to be the same with steps count, estimated calories burned, silent alarm (using vibrator) and sleep monitoring.  The program for Windows, and app for Android 4.3+ or iOS 7.1+ remains the same. You can also check the data online with the User Center with is better, although I find it ridiculous to have to input a verification code each time you have to login.

You can find more details on Vidonn website.
