$99 Polaroid Cube Mini Sports Camera

I’m often writing about Android / Linux mini PCs, but in this post, I’ll cover a mini camera: Polaroid Cube (POLC3).  Just like GoPro or SJ1000, it’s a Full HD wide angle sports camera, but just smaller being a 3.5cm wide cube.

Some of the key features include:

• Video capture resolution – 1920 x 1080; 1280×720 (30FPS)
• Recording format – H.264
• Still image resolution – 6 MP; JPEG still image
• Lens – 124º wide angle lens (F 2.0, f=3.4mm)
• Viewing angel – 124º (wide angle)
• Built-on Microphone
• External memory – Micro SD card, up to 32GB
• USB – mini USB 2.0 port for connection with PC or Mac
• Weatherproof/splash proof
• Misc – LED for still image, video recording indication. (Since there’s no display)
• Battery & power- Lithium battery, good for 90 minutes recording
• Dimensions – 3.5 x 3.5 x3.5 cm
• Weight – N/A

There’s a strong magnet inside the camera, so it can easily attached a metallic surface, but Polaroid also provides various accessories for the camera: a waterproof case, a suction mount, an helmet mount, a strap mount, a tripod mount, a bumper case, a bicycle mount, and the monkey stand shown above. The camera is currently selling on Amazon US for $99. Contrary to Chinese sports cameras like SJ4000, the accessories are not included, and all you’ll get with your camera is a short USB cable, a user’s manual, and a warranty card. So unless you just plan to hold the camera in your hand, or use the magnet, you’ll also need to order one or more mounting options for $17.99 to $39.99. I haven’t been able to find technical details (e.g. processor) used by the camera yet, but since the camera appears to be quite popular, hopefully a teardown will be featured in iFixit.
