Promate LumiTab Android Tablet Features a DLP Pico-Projector

Back in 2011 & 2012, we saw some Android products with a pico-projector, including a lightbulb running Android, but pico-projectors never really seemed to be embedded into consumers products. Promate, however, decided to add one of those to one of their Android tablets. Promate Lumitab would just be a typical Android 4.2 tablet with a 7″ touchscreen, a dual core processor (OMAP4460), 1GB RAM, 16GB flash, if it did not also come with a DLP pico-projector capable of outputting an image up to 100″ (254 cm).

I’m not quite sure how readable text will be with a 854×480 resolution with an image scaled to 100″, but for a presentation with large characters it may be readable. Watching SD movies would be fine as well… DLP pico-projector technology used in this product is also from Texas Instruments, and the specs look somewhat similar (a little bit better) to their DLP Lightcrafter Pico-projector module.

There’s no availability nor pricing information at this time.

  1. It would be really cool if there was a decent mini PC with a pico-projector for less then 50€.

I can’t find any that can match your price target. One solution would be to use: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free-drop-shipping-LED-lamp-Cheap-Mini-LCD-Portable-Projector-with-VGA-and-remote-control-micro/727567860.html with a mini PC with an AV output. You’d have to buy an AV cable with 3.5mm connectors on both sides. Total cost could be around $100, but the resolution is only 320×240.

Another options is PhoneSuite Lightplay (http://www.phonesuit.com/phonesuit-lightplay-android-mobile-video-projector), but it’s $360.
I also wrote about a Android full projector before http://www.cnx-software.com/2012/11/10/444-smartbeam-android-4-0-media-player-projector-powered-by-telechips-tcc8925/, but it’s not mini at all, and not around 50 Euros…

Thanks . The first one you mentioned looks interesting but I’m not sure how usable it would be with that resolution. I wonder if my netbook that runs Windows 7 would detect it as a 1024×768 display or it would detect the exact resolution of 320×240.
