The processor is manufactured with a 40nm process and comes in a TFBGA package (17×17 mm) with 0.65 pitch.

You can read infoTMIC iMAPx820 Introduction (PDF) for more information about this processor. This processor has some interesting features such as SATA, dual display support…, but I very much doubt we’ll ever see any GPL source code released for this processor as I’m pretty sure infoTMIC and the few Chinese companies using their solution could not care less.

Diyomate A5 Dual Core only seems to be available to distributors for now, and costs $43 for 1k orders. There is however a similar set-top box (but with 512MB RAM) that sells for $81.66 on Aliexpress. There’s also an upcoming Diyomate A8 set-top box based on Rockchip RK3066 ($46 / 1k order). However, I would probably never buy any Diyomate products after I’ve read several comments on my Diyomate A6 TV BOX post that indicate the box has quite a few annoying bugs, the firmware file is hard to get, and you can’t do much about it as they blocked access to ADB with a password in that particular media player.

  1. First section is stating mem, the specs list say 1024 mem. Which one is it? I guess it is 1024 as you at the end speak about another version with 512.

Thanks. At $38 that must be the cheapest dual core on the market, although 2x A5 is still much slower than 2x A9. Edit: Finally maybe not the cheapest, as shipping is not included.

Sorry, the Diyomate should have 1GB RAM according to the doc I have. I’ll update that.

  3. 2x A5 it’s maybe slower than 2xA9 but the imapx it’s probably cheaper than a rockchip 3066 or a 8726-mx, for example a rk3066 cost 15$ this imap probably cost less than 10$ probalby 7-8$

Yes, iMAPX820 should be cheaper than cortex A9 SoCs, but for now the few end products based on iMAPx820 are about the same price or even a little more expensive than RK3066. For example, the Wise Tivi Box costs $60, and RK3066 mini PCs can be found at around $45 inc. shipping. Hopefully this will change as more imapx8xx devices come to the market.
