For the very first time, ARM showcased on of their latest GPU, the Mali T-604, at SIGGRAPH 2012. There were 3 demos running in a tablet reference platform based on Samsung Exynos 5 Dual Cortex A15 processor clocked at 1.7 GHz:
- Timbuktu 2 showing improvement brought by OpenGL ES 3.0 such as higher details buffers, shadow comparison, etc…
- Hauntheim showcasing multiple lightings accelerated with GLES 3.0 and OpenCL (GPU compute)
- Enlighten, a demo where you can adjust the sun position and see the building shadows move smoothly in real-time.
Devices featuring this technology may be available by the end of the year.

I know that arm do not produce the actual physical processors, but only licence the technology for producing it.
Having said that, My original rant is still towards arm based on mine these assumptions.
1. ARM does not do this alone, Mali licence / collaborate with them on hardware layer then software layer over arm core’s
2. Manufacturer do not talks to Mali, he talks to arm, which in turn first license then help them with necessary know how to use this package (arm+mali tech layer) over their processor.
3. In my view this entire processes pipe line arm is the key party, who can expedite the process. where they fail.
Anandtech has carried the similar announcement T6xx series in Nov-2011 and before that I heard it back in 2010.
I think between this announcement gimmick and the actual tech transfer /licensing etc too much time goes into who knows what. Demoing a reference units behind sealed glasses is not a demo at all. No one can steal any code of something just by looking hardware closely. That’s why I called it gimmick. Period
Looks good. I just hope ARM are smart enough to go with 64bit. I want a cheap 64bit hardware based server.

ARMv8 servers should become available next year, but I don’t think they’ll be cheap, as in “cheap” for the consumers.

I’ve been reading some of the specs and it looks the AAarch64 additions are mainly to foster larger memory mapping and server sale fields. I’m not sure if there will be any major speed increases by using 64bit compared to 32bit.
I’m hoping ARMv8 is ready soon for SOC customers so that the next level of devices are out, like say a Mele 3000… smile…
so i have to buy a crap tablet (tegra3,exynos4,omap4,mali400) until this? exynos5,omap5,mali6xx,tegra4 not yet on the shelves. So had to have them all. Solved.
