$77 Mini Xplus Media Player with Android 4.0 and 1GB RAM

I previously wrote about Mini X media player, an Android mini Media Player powered by AllWinner A10 with 512 MB RAM that runs Android 2.3. Its price has been reduced by about $10 to $67.60, and it now has a big brother called Mini Xplus that looks exactly the same except it runs Android 4.0 and comes with 1GB RAM according to Deal Extreme.

Here are the device specifications based on Deal Extreme overview:

  • CPU – AllWinner A10 (Cortex A8) with Mali-400 GPU @ 1.2 GHz
  • Memory – 1GB DDR3 RAM
  • Storage – 4GB NAND Flash, microSD slot
  • Video Output – HDMI 1.3 and Composite
  • USB – 2x USB 2.0 host
  • Connectivity – WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
  • Video Formats –  MKV, TS, TP, M2TS, RM/RMVB, BD-ISO, AVI, MPG, VOB, DAT, ASF, TRP, FLV etc
  • Video Codecs – MPEG1/2/4, H.264, VC-1, Divx, Xvid, RM8/9/10, VP6
  • Subtitle – SRT, SUB, IDX, SSA, SMI
  • Audio Formats – MP3, ACC, OGG, WMA, WAV, M4A, APE
  • Image format – JPG, BMP,GIF, TIF, PNG
  • IR Remote Control
  • Dimension: 72 x 61 x 13mm
  • Weight: 51g
Considering the price for the new version is about $10 more expensive than the old version, I’m hopeful that the specs above (especially the 1 GB RAM) are correct. However, according to XBMC Wiki, the original Mini X player might also be called Mini Xplus due to legal reason.

I know some people here have bought the original Mini X and might be interested in Mini X Android 4.0 firmware. (via Brando)

If you are interested in the upgraded version of Mini X, it is available for $77.30 on dealextreme.

Interesting device, it looks similar to the Mele A1000 in size, price and specs, except it has 8GB vs 4GB, and the Mele A1000 has SATA interface. I understand that Ethernet is a must for you, so the choices of device is more limited, unless you go with a USB Ethernet dongle.

Looking forward to reading the review 🙂

it just arrived this morning. The specs say about OTG USB interface, but it doesn’t seem to exist. Also the device has normal HDMI interface and SD card, so I need to find a microSD to SD adapter 🙂

I haven’t yet tried to open up the enclosure. I hope it’s not glued 🙂

Nice. It would be good to add a picture showing the serial port.
All the errors you see at boot time are because of the lack of initramfs. This is fixed in github, so tomorrow’s image will support it and I’ll also post the instructions.

  4. Ahoj Stano , prosim o info : kupil som , ale neda sa spustit na TV je stale napis ANDROID ale dalej nenacita , prosim o radu , kde by som mohol stiahnut firmware ? dik Peter

  5. Thank you very much Stanislav, my problem is that when the SD card is automatically deleted – destroy firmware so I can use the SD card
