I’ve recently discovered some low cost tablets in one of the computer centers in Chiang Mai manufactured by a Thai company (SEC Intertech Thailand Co. Ltd) and sold under the “KT Keep In Touch” brand. They have their own shop in the center and sell exclusively those tablets as well as SD cards and 3G dongles.
The prices range between 7,900 Baht to 9,900 Baht for 7″ Android 2.2 and 2.3 tablets, that’s equivalent to 250 USD to 315 USD. Those prices include VAT and all sort of custom duties that you may not get when you buy in other countries like the US, that means retail prices are usually 30 to 40% more expensive in Thailand compared to the US. The seller also had a 10″ tablet, but he looked like he did not want to show it to me as it was the an older model with resistive touchscreen and relatively slow processor.
They have 5 models they actively promote:
- KT C807 – Crystal
- KT S807 – Supreme Touch
- KT R907 – Race Way
- KT R907E – RaceWay Evolution
- KT R907+ – RaceWay Plus
Most of their tablets felt quite heavy and the design was not so nice (thick), but I was relatively impressed with their latest model the KT R907+ RaceWay Plus (9,900 THB). The design is sleek, relatively thin (1.25 mm thick) and lightweight (400 grams), it features a dual core Cortex A9 Renesas EV2 processor, a 7″ capacitive touch screen (9 points) with Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity. Front and rear cameras are also included, but to be honest they are very poor like on many other products.
Here are the specifications of the KT R907+:

While I was in the shop, I shamelessly ran a AnTuTu benchmark and got 2823 which is equivalent to the performance of a Samsung Nexus S.
You can also watch the KT R907+ Raceway Plus video review below (in Thai):
Finally, the guy at the shop also told me the next model would be using a Cortex A10 processor… I can only guess that he meant they would use the Allwinner A10 Cortex A8 processor, which should improve the performance and lower the cost. He also said their existing tablets would support Android 4.0 next February and firmware updates will eb made available.
