Netgem’s IPTV 2.0 Home Cloud SDK

Netgem announced the release of its “Home Cloud” SDK based on IPTV 2.0 open architecture.

Paris, France  March 15 , 2011  Netgem, an IPTV technology leader, has announced it
has made its Home Cloud software development kit (SDK) available to application developers,
Internet service providers and operator partners.

Netgem is further developing its partner ecosystem to enable third parties to take advantage of its IPTV 2.0 open architecture. This application framework is designed for the development of  live and on-demand TV and multimedia applications. Using the open and fully documented APIs telecom operators and their partners can develop their local ecosystem of applications and services to differentiate their offering from competitors. Since Netgem is a pure technology vendor it does not interfere with the economics of the relationship between operators and developers, who are able to share 100% of the revenue.

Demos using the Home Cloud SDK will be shown at IPTV World Forum  in London on 22-24 March 2011.

The demo applications are developped by third parties leveraging Netgem SDK:

• Accedo Broadband, developping IPTV and Connected TV applications such as IPTV games, quizzes, puzzles, VOD, live TV, music, karaoke, lifestyle, sports, weather, social media and communication services
• Wiztivi, an international leader in all aspects of the interactive television market
• Zappware,  a  leading developer of off-the-shelf and custom-designedinteractive digital television (iDTV) solutions for operators and broadcasters  and Multimediavision who co-developed GrooveShark, the most inclusive and fully-featured on-demand music service on the Web, with Planet9.

The software development kit can be downloaded on Netgem’s developer website, but before you get started you’ll need to sign a Third Party Development Program Agreement in order to obtain login information. You won’t be able to develop application on any retail / ISP netgem set-top box, you’ll receive specific Netgem Set-Top Box(es) for development.

Here are the key features of the SDK from a developer point of view:

• The development of application based on this SDK requires knowledge of JavaScript and a markup language, but it is not necessary to know C/C++.
• The applications developed in JavaScript that can be hosted on a web server or embedded on the set top box. Your pages will interpreted and executed on the set top box by Netgem browser. Specific TV features such as access to the tuner are available in JavaScript.
• The SDK allows for the development of a very broad range of Interactive TV applications, such as video player app, EPG, PVR, VoD catalog, social network app, photo album, games, news, music streaming applications, media center, email client, visual voice mail and all the companion mobile and tablet applications that goes along.
