GOLE1 is a $79 Intel Atom x5 Windows 10 / Android 5.1 mini PC with a 5″ Touchscreen Display (Crowdfunding)

PiPo has been one of the first company to take advantage of Microsoft policy of providing a free license for Windows 10 for devices with smaller touchscreen displays with mini PCs such as PiPo X8 that includes a 7″ display, saving $25 to $35 on the Windows 10 license for such products without displays. Shenzhen Qianhai Gole Technology (Gole) has also been selling similar devices on their Aliexpress store, and the company is now taking to Indiegogo to launch their latest model, dubbed GOLE1, featuring a 5″ touchscreen display, and fitting in your pocket.

The mini PC runs a dual OS firmware with Windows 10 Home and Android 5.1 with Google Play store. That means the space will really be tight for Windows 10 if you go with the 32GB version, as in my experience even Windows 10 only mini PC with 32GB storage get filled pretty quickly. It all depend on your use case, but the 64GB version is probably more suitable for most people.

The early bird rewards include the  2GB RAM and 32GB flash version for  $79, and the 4GB RAM and 64 GB storage version for $99. One reward also include a 2.5″ HDD case magnetically connected to the mini PC, and that supports up to 2 TB HDD. Shipping (by DHL) is not included and adds $26, which brings the early bird prices to $105 and $125. Delivery is scheduled for July 2016. If you’re not comfortable with getting involved in the crowdfunding campaign, but are interested in the product, it will certainly be sold via the company’s Aliexpress store in due time.

  1. Wow – 4/64gb one at a reasonable price! Atom x5-Z8300 is one of the chips Intel is phasing out?

  2. @onebir
The price is OK, but others also have similar offerings -> http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Original-Cenovo-Mini-2-TV-BOX-Intel-X5-Z8300-Quad-Core-Windows-10-4GB-RAM-64GB/32656133799.html

The main draw is that if you want to use the 5″ display. The other models at the same probably have an unlicensed version of Windows too.

Once I read on Anadtech that the free version of Windows was only for models limited to 2GB RAM, up to 9″ display, and that 4GB RAM would not qualify for the free Windows 10 license. It would be good if Microsoft terms were available somewhere, and maybe they are, but I just don’t know where…

  3. I guess ARM won this one didn’t they? CPUs going for $5 at cheapest and you can get usable TV boxes and development boards down to $30. NUCs never really made that huge of a success, what a shame. I’d really like small low power x86 boxes who could use their integrated graphics and run proper mainline GNU/Linux, but like always ARM SoCs are made for Android devices not others.

I have a tablet which arrived with a illegal activation software running in the background, and they advertised it as genuine on their site and the seller’s page. Absolutely no trust in Chinese manufacturers from this point on.

  4. There is no mention on how to switch to android and how android works.

How to know if Win 1o is legal?

  5. @xxx
I would execute this command “slmgr.vbs /dli” though windows + R button or cmd itself. If you see any weird KMS server listed and weird activation timeframes you should beware. Don’t know if it’s patched how that would be though. Mine is our companys local windows enterprise activation, but a more local one would indicate a not-genuine copy.

Banggood is a known supplier which many trust, I believe all these indie founding sites take more for shipping because they use DHL instead of subsidized state post. DHL here in my country are total jerks for some reason so I would avoid them at all costs personally. They delay sending you invoices so they can collect extra fees for late payment on purpose and we have no way to pay it before they send it.

  7. @cnxsoft
Yes, but this one charges $26 for shipping (Europe), while BangGood ships for free.

Edit: The one on BangGood has a 1200mAh/3.7V battery, while this one has a 2600mAh battery

  8. @haze
Probably a partnership between PiPo and Gole here.

    @GunterO
$105 is the price including shipping. So if you go early bird it’s still advantageous on Indiegogo.
I’m not sure we can trust the battery capacity.

This sale you linked to says 4gb in the title but 2gb if you scroll to the bottom detailed spec. Maybe an option? What do you get?
