The tablet will come with a charger and a USB cable, and be sold for $239.99 starting mid-December. According to some screenshots found on Gizmochina, the Power VR GPU in AllWinner A31 provides twice of performance of Tegra 3 and 0.9 the performance of the GPU in the new iPAD. Even though Onda has cut some corners to keep the price low (e.g. no Bluetooth) this is a high-end tablet competing with 10″ Tegra 3 tablets, and to some extents the new iPAD and Google Nexus 10, although the CPU performance will be much slower.

they should have focused on build and feature instead of using the retina branding. people who want retina will buy apple — its their brand.
@earl cameron
Ah ok, I should not have used Retina in that post maybe. But the resolution is 2048×1536
“Dimensions – 649 grams
Weight – 242*187.5*9.8mm”
🙂
@onebir
Haha… OK I have a perfectly reasonable explanation for this: “This was obviously to test my readers and see if anybody would notice” :p
Leaked Antutu 3.0 score: 21463. Source: http://bbs2.ruliweb.daum.net/gaia/do/ruliweb/default/mobile/55/read?bbsId=G003&itemId=9&articleId=952737
If that’s true, that’s impressive, as it’s very close to the top devices out there (e.g. Xiaomi 2 based on Snapdragon S4 Pro). It’s really the GPU that boosts the score.
@cnxsoft no not you admin, I am talking about onda…
My nexus shows only 11k in antutu 3 … so, HDMI mini PC with this SoC will be excellent mini desktop … wow
5 months ago got my cube gt30, +5000 antutu was phenomenal those days…
Amazing progress…
Go China go!
@Alex
I think something is wrong in this Antutu chart. The AllWinner CPU has about the same integer and floating-point performance performance as the Exynos 4 quad in the galaxy S3, it should be much lower. I guess 4xA7 ~ 2x or 3x A9.
@Crazy Joz
I think your RK3066 tablet should have a score of about 12,000 now with Antutu 3.0.
@cnxsoft
As I understood A7 has the same performance as A8… gut in this case with 28nm (or 32nm… do not remember) they could use higher frequency and powerful GPU may give these extra points.
It is possible to have this kind of performance… but not for a long time and only in lab environment (when you have kernel source code it is possible to play =))).
@Alex
Yes, if they boosted the frequency to say 2 GHz for the benchmark it might be possible, but the battery life would suffer.
I can’t find any info on the max. freq. for AllWinner A31.
@Alex
One more Antutu (2.9.4) bnchmark result: 12836 which is still very good, but below Galaxy S3 score. http://www.gizmochina.com/2012/12/05/teclast-p88-tablet-come-with-allwinner-a31-processor-benchmark-more-than-12000/
I’ve read Antutu complained about company cheating in their latest benchmark… But since Antutu 3.0 gives more weight to the GPU, it’s possible A31 score is better than Galaxy Note 2.
This image shows some comparison between AllWinner A31, Tegra 3 and Exynos 4412, and some metrics (Chinese translation would be nice) show a huge advantage for A31 and could explain the performance.

So whats worse than a Mali GPU for Linux and Andriod….. A PowerVR GPU!
For Mali at lease there is some Linux/X.org support from ARM and even a reverse engineering project going on.
But for Imagination (PowerVR). They are just plain Lame!. Even the Intel Atoms which use such similar GPU don’t get proper support for Linux, they’ve release one version and don’t even bother maintain that one, let alone new versions of X.org or Wayland.
The variant used in ARM SoC’s don’t get any support. And there is no reverse engineering project going on as well.
To bad the PowerVR’s actually provide Graphics power.
@cnxsoft
Nice.
So allwinner now has something tegra3 stile, with linux unfriendly GPU but with longer battery live…
If it is cheap … good, but at the moment a bit useless
@Alex
With those specs, I find the Onda V972 quite cheap.
There’s also quad core A10 tablet/keyboard combo called Aocos PX92 for a similar price on Aliexpress. Lower resolution – not sure how the other specs compare…
@onebir
It looks nice, and it’s very very light “Weight: 1.5 g” 🙂
They indicate it’s AllWinner A10 with Mali 400 on the page I looked: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/9-7-inch-IPS-Andriod-4-0-Allwinner-A10-1-5-GHZ-AOCOS-PX92-Wifi-3G/569963641.html
@cnxsoft
Hehe – how long before the ‘lighter than air’ tablet?
Here they say this PX92 is “Allwinner A10 Many Core 1.5GHZ”:
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/free-shipping-9-7-IPS-Andriod-4-0-Allwinner-A10-dual-care-1-5GHZ-AOCOS-PX92/569954583.html
That made me think it was the new multicore A10 processor. Also the PX102 is dual core. But I guess then a quad core would be PX112 with a slightly logical naming scheme. I guess that seller’s counting the cores in the Mali – seems to be a modern Chinese tradition! :s
Any news or status updates from Allwinner on CedarX support in XBMC?
@Harley
They have it working. See http://www.cnx-software.com/2012/11/12/xbmc-for-linux-on-allwinner-a10-devices-it-works-sort-of/
But this still requires more work, and there seems to be artifacts in some videos that are due to CedarX libs (It happens in 2 implementations: empat0 and gimli), so it’s unlikely to be fixed without AllWinner involvement.
I have a freelander PD80 Wise or Wisdom or Intelligent…..all the same.
Antutu 3.1.1 shows CPU speed of 1008Mhz., not the 1.4 to 1.6 GHz. quoted around the sellers.
The Screen Resolution is also not as advertised. It is 2048 x 1440. Should be 2048 x 1536
@Terry
Thanks for the feedback. It’s the first time I’ve heard anything about the frequency for the A31. But it’s common for Chinese sellers to provide the theoretical maximum frequency of a processor, even though it’s clocked at a lower frequency in the device.
For the screen resolution, if you read it in Antutu or Quadrant, I think it does not include the status bar. That’s why the resolution is slightly different.
Hi,
Thanks for the information. I was trying to get an idea about the performance of the cpu, as its gpu performance is a bit more clear by looking at Ipad 3. I’m actually wondering how this cpu and gpu combination performs compared to the combination used in Galaxy S3 (Exynos 4412 quad core + Mali-400MP4) mostly for gaming-based usage.
http://dealsprime.com/index.php/hyundai-t7s-quad-core-tablet-pc-7-ips-1280-800-gps-android-4-0-4-16gb-exynos-4412-1-4ghz-cpu.html
Hyundai T7S has the same specs with Galaxy S3 considering cpu and gpu (and btw it has 2 GB ram) and I’m planning to buy it. Would you recommend it or should I go for a 9-10″ tablet featuring A31 like Onda v972?
@Rapscallion
The CPU will be much slower, but I’m not sure the CPU performance is that important in Android. The GPU in A31 is superior to the one in Exynos 4412. I’m not really sure which model I should recommend here. Both you work very smoothly with Android.
@cnxsoft
Hyundai has GPS, bluetooth features, but Ainol and Onda do not include them in their tablets. Actually, they are not so important, but it does not harm to have them as well. In that case I cannot decide easily, too, but tend to wait and buy a 7″ tablet with A31, as I would like to be able to play some of the new 3D games without any lag. Thanks for the reply.
I compared to other sites on Onda V972 price, $250 or more
