GPD Pocket 2 Max mini Laptop Combines 8.9″ Display with Core m3-8100Y Amber Lake Processor

In recent years, companies like GPD and One Mix have launched tiny laptops with 6″ to 7″ displays. Those have the advantages of being ultra-portable, yet delivering pretty good performance thanks to Intel Kaby Lake-Y, Gemini Lake, and Amber Lake processors. Size can also be an inconvenient, even if your eyes are good enough for the tiny screens, the keyboard does not allow maximum productivity for most people. GPD Pocket 2 Max mini laptop should improve on this as its 8.9″ display is still small by laptop standards, but it should be more readable, and the keyboard will also be larger. GPD Pocket 2 Amber Black is a Cheaper Mini laptop with Celeron 3965Y Processor

GPD introduced their latest Pocket 2 mini laptop via a crowdfunding campaign last summer. The device packs a Intel Core m3-7y30 Kaby Lake processor coupled with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, as well as 7″ 1920×1200 display. It’s great if you need an ultra-mobile computer with decent performance, especially it also comes with an HDMI port to connect to a larger display when you sit at a desk, but you’d have to pay around $700 to get one on Amazon, GeekBuying, or other websites. The company has now launched a cheaper version called “GPD Pocket 2 Amber Black” that goes for $435 and up on Indiegogo.  The design is pretty much the same, but price for this version is quite cheaper thanks to the switch to a Celeron 3965Y processor, and 4GB RAM. GPD Pocket 2 Kaby lake mini laptop is getting some competition with One Mix 2 Yoga pocket laptop featuring the same Intel Core M3-7Y30 processor, but coupled with 8GB RAM, and a 256 SSD, and equipped with the usual 7″ touchscreen display and QWERTY keyboard. Last year, GPD introduced GPD Pocket, a portable computer with a 7″ display powered by an Atom x7-Z8750 Cherry Trail processor and offered with either Windows 10 or Ubuntu 16.04. The company is now back with GPD Pocket 2 model with various improvements including a significantly faster Intel Core m3-7y30 Kaby Lake processor, and offered only with Windows 10 64-bit this time around. Intel floats Modular PC design proposal for repairable laptops and mini PCs

Intel has published an article proposing a modular PC design that would improve the repairability/right-to-repair of laptops and mini PCs and reduce e-waste through the replacement of motherboard, display, and M.2 or FPC add-on modules for the user-facing ports. Making repairable, modular electronic devices is not a new idea, and the Framework laptops are probably the best-known option now, but they do come at a premium. But most projects are limited success, for instance, Project Ara modular smartphone from Google eventually died off. We’ve also covered modular or open-source hardware solutions from smaller companies over the years such as Firefly Station P3D modular Arm mini PC with swappable cards, or Olimex Teres-I DIY and open-source hardware laptop.
