Codasip L31 and L11 RISC-V cores for AI/ML support TFLite Micro, customizations

Codasip L31 L11

Codasip has announced the L31 and L11 low-power embedded RISC-V processor cores optimized for customization of AI/ML IoT edge applications with power and size constraints. The company further explains the new L31/L11 RISC-V cores can run Google’s TensorFlow Lite for Microcontrollers (TFLite Micro) and can be optimized for specific applications through Codasip Studio RISC-V design tools. As I understand it, this can be done by the customers themselves thanks to a full architecture license as stated by Codasip CTO, Zdeněk Přikryl: Licensing the CodAL description of a RISC-V core gives Codasip customers a full architecture license enabling both the ISA and microarchitecture to be customized. The new L11/31 cores make it even easier to add features our customers were asking for, such as edge AI, into the smallest, lowest power embedded processor designs. The ability to customize the cores is important for AI and ML applications since the data types, […]

Dragino LDS02 LoRaWAN door and window sensor offers long range and battery life

Dragino LDS02 LoRaWAN door & window sensor

Home automation usually relies on short-range wireless standards such as Bluetooth LE, Zigbee, or WiFi, sometimes with the help of repeaters for larger houses. But if you need to monitor large houses, several houses on a piece of land, or apartments, you’d be glad that you can also do so, at least for doors and windows, with LoRaWAN using Dragino LDS02 sensor. The LDS02 sensor will work like your typical wireless door/window sensor, detection when those are opened and closed, and for how long, but will offer a much longer range of up to 2km in urban settings, as well as battery life meaning it could last for years depending on the frequency of door/window events, as well as uplink frequency configuration. Dragino LDS02 LoRaWAN door sensor specifications: Based on SX1262 LoRa transceiver LoRaWAN v1.0.3 Class A Bands – CN470, EU433, KR920, US915, EU868, AS923, AU915, IN865 Door Open/Close detection […]

Raspberry Pi 4 4GB/8GB price is going through the roof (over 100 Euros in Europe)

Raspberry Pi 4 4GB 120 Euros

While Raspberry Pi Foundation provides a fixed price for their single board computers before taxes and shipping, the street price may be different, and I’ve seen several reports on Twitter of the Raspberry Pi 4 with 4GB RAM now selling for over $100 due to the lack of supplies. The problem seems especially pronounced in Europe with some users reporting a price close to 120 Euros, instead of the usual 50 to 60 price range. Geizhals price comparison website did even show the Raspberry Pi 4 with 8GB RAM selling for up to 149.99 Euros (About $170) just last week, but prices have now gone down to just around 100 Euros, clearly a steal! The price for Raspberry Pi 4 with 4GB RAM has also gone down, but it is still at 89.90 Euros according to the Heise’s price comparison website. This is probably a regional pricing issue, but the […]

Intel launches Alder Lake P-Series and U-Series mobile hybrid processors

Intel-Alder Lake P-Series and U-Series block diagram

Intel first unveiled the most powerful Alder Lake H-Series last year before the launch in January, and also introduced Alder Lake-S desktop IoT processors and Alder Lake U-Series and P-Series mobile IoT SoCs in early January. But now the company has announced the launch of the Alder Lake P-Series (28W) and U-Series (9W and 15 PBP) 12th generation mobile processors designed for “thin-and-light” laptops which should become available around March 2022. The block diagram of the 28W P-Series and 15W U-Series (source: product brief from Intel) shows both offer the same interfaces including eDP 1.4b, HDMI 2.0b, 2x PCIe Gen4, 12x PCIe Gen3, 2x SATA… and the same 50x25x12mm BGA package. But the 9W U-Series comes in a cost-optimized 28.5x19x11mm BGA package that does without SATA interfaces, a lower number of PCIe Gen3 interfaces (10 vs 12), USB 2.0 interfaces (6 vs 10), Thunderbolt 4 interfaces (2 vs 4), and […]
