DevTerm modular, portable Linux terminal initially designed for modules based on Raspberry Pi CM3 form factor, can now work with Raspberry Pi CM4 for extra performance and memory thanks to a $19 adapter. The Devterm was initially launched in 2020 with a 6.8-inch IPS screen, a keyboard with 67 keys, and a battery module, all connected through the ClockworkPi v3.14 carrier board taking a choice of core modules based on Allwinner H6 or Rockchip RK3399 (now supported in Armbian), besides the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 3 mentioned above. More recently, it also got an Allwinner D1 RISC-V module. The Raspberry Pi CM4 module should bring performance similar to the Rockchip RK3399 module for most tasks, although it may vary a lot depending on workloads, and for regular Raspberry Pi users, software that will be more familiar, and may be better supported. I’ve just a bit surprised it took so long, […]

Imagination unveils IMG RTXM-2200 32-bit RISC-V real-time “Catapult” CPU
Imagination IMG RTXM-2200 32-bit RISC-V real-time CPU core is the first member of the company’s Catapult family comprised of four distinct RISC-V families for dynamic microcontrollers, real-time embedded CPUs, high-performance application CPUs, and functionally safe automotive CPUs. The company says it’s a highly scalable real-time, deterministic, 32-bit embedded CPU, that is feature-rich and flexible in design for mainstream devices, but, excuse the pun, leaves most of the details to your imagination… The new core will mostly be used as a helper core (aka co-processor) in more complex SoCs for 5G modems, cellular base stations, networking solutions for data transfer, packet management, and storage controllers, but may also find its way into smart meters. In all fairness, we do have some limited technical details with L1 cache sizes up to 128KB, I/D TCM sizes up to 128KB, and PMA regions. The real-time core will also include optional features such as single-point […]

Orbbec Femto ToF camera enables accurate 3D object and scene capture
We’ve written a couple of articles about Time-of-Flight (ToF) technology in recent weeks notably about ranging sensors such as VL53L8 dToF sensor and Toppan hybrid ToF sensor, but Orbbec has used the technology in their Femto camera line designed to capture 3D objects and scenes. The Femto 3D cameras support a depth-of-field (DoF) from 0.2 to 5 meters, multi-camera synchronization, can be used in complete darkness, and are equipped with a 6-Axis IMU tracking sensor for motion tracking. The ToF cameras should find their way into applications for healthcare, warehousing/shipping, autonomous robotics, augmented reality, and other sectors. Three models are available with the following highlights: Femto – 0.2 to 5 meters optical range with a depth resolution of 640 x 480 @ 30fps, and 5.8W power consumption. 99.4 x 68 x 25mm form factor. Femto W – Wide depth field of view (H90, V74) and color field of view (H98.6, […]
