Black Friday is the day following Thanks giving in the USA, and is considered the beginning of the Christmas shopping season. Low Cost Tablets (ZXC Z7) with Built-in 3G Powered by Mediatek MTK8377 Dual Core Processor

Many low cost tablets can only support 3G connectivity via an external 3G USB dongle, and if you are searching for one online, it can be a pain to find because of keyword stuffing. I’ve just discovered one easy way to filter the 3G tablets: Specify Mediatek MTK6575 (Single core Cortex A9) or MTK8377 (dual core Cortex A9) processors during the search as those platforms (always?) include a connectivity combo that provides GSM and 3G support. Media MTK8377 is still very new, but some preliminary tests show its Antutu score is 5626, which is not really wonderful, but still passable for an SoC clocked at 1.2 GHz. As a reference, I’ve seen AMLogic AML8726-MX dual Cortex A9 SoC @ 1.2 GHz having an Antutu score of 5900. Android Jelly Bean 4.2 SDK, Source Code and Binary Images Are Now Available

As the Nexus 4 smartphone and Nexus 10 tablet became available for purchase yesterday, Google released Android 4.2 SDK for developers and pushed Android 4.2 to AOSP. The Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) SDK platform (API level 17) brings the following key improvements: Performance – Renderscript computation can be run directly in the GPU on the Nexus 10. This is a first since Exynos 5250 is the first ARM processor capable of supporting GPGPU (via Mali-T604 GPU). See the chart of the right showing results between CPU and CPU+GPU computation of some multimedia benchmarks. Google Nexus 7 Tablet (8GB) is Now Available Worldwide… for $330

If you do not live in one of the 8 countries where Google Nexus 7 is for sale, namely the US, Canada, the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Australia and Japan [Update: Actually it seems to be officially available in more countries now (e.g. South Kore, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong…) , but I can’t find an exact list], and still want to get your hands on a Nexus 7 tablet, there is now an option as the Google Nexus 7 (8 GB) can be bought via Dealextreme for $330.30 including (slow shipping) via Hong Kong Post. That’s about $100 more expensive than the original price on Google Play ($199 + ~$30 shipping + taxes), but it may be one of the only options, if you don’t live (or have friends) in the countries where Google Devices are available. Rockchip RK3066/RK30xx Processors Documentation, Source Code and Tools

Rockchip RK3066 (part of RK30xx family) is a Chinese dual ARM Cortex A9 SoC targeting multimedia products such as tablets (e.g. Cube U30GT), mini PC (e.g UG802, MK808) and in theory set-top boxes, but I can’t find any products based on this Rockchip processor. WM8850-MID Tablet Firmware Files and Root Instructions

I’ve bought a noname tablet described as W8850-MID in the Android Settings that did not come rooted, and after several attempts trying to find how to root the tablet I had more or less given up, as tools such as UnlockRoot or OneClickRoot did not work with the device. After not using my tablet for 2 months, I started it again, but it just showed the Android animation forever, and failed to boot to the home screen. So I had to do something and finally managed to find firmware files for the device and root it.
