Allwinner A523 octa-core Cortex-A55 processor to show up in tablets, SBCs

Allwinner A523 octa core Cortex A55 processor

Allwinner A523 is an octa-core Cortex-A55 processor clocked at up to 1.4/1.8GHz in big.LITTLE (DynamIQ) configuration and mainly designed for tablets with multiple display interfaces such as two 4-lane MIPI DSPI interfaces, two MIPI CSI camera interfaces, a Mali-G57 GPU, and more. But the block diagram below also shows two Gigabit Ethernet (GMAC) interfaces and HDMI 2.0 output among other interfaces meaning it will likely be used in Smart Home products as the Allwinner R828/MR828, and possibly automotive products as the Allwinner T527. I first discovered the Allwinner A523 last March via a tweet by 柚木 鉉 (GLGH_), but there was little information at that time. We now have further details about the processor and upcoming products such as the Teclast P26T, and a potential Allwinner A523 single board computer or module. Allwinner A523 preliminary specifications: CPU Application – Octa-core Arm Cortex-A55 @ in big.LITTLE configuration with four cores @ […]

MangoPi mCore-R818 module powers CyberPad 3.1-inch handheld android “tablet”

CyberPad Components

mCore-R818 is the first time that MangoPi adopts the design combination of a core-lite module and a carrier board. As its name suggests, it is an AllWinner R818 SoM whose SoC integrates an Imagination PowerVR GE8300 GPU for UI rendering, can drive MIPI DSI, LVDS, and RGB displays, as well as cameras through a MIPI CSI interface, 8MP/5MP/2MP interfaces. The Allwinner R818 system-on-module powers a feature-rich carrier board as well as an upcoming Cyberpad Android “tablet” with a 3.1-inch display. MangoPi mCore-R818 The package design of the processor itself is small, so the MCore-R818 core board is only 3x3cm in size, but still contains four components with the Allwinner R818, the eMMC flash, LPDDR4 memory, and the AXP717 PMU. MangoPi provides two hardware configurations: 2GB DDR with 16GB eMMC flash, and 4GB DDR with 32GB eMMC flash. MCore-R818 Core Lite Specifications: SoC – Allwinner R818 CPU – Quad-core Arm Cortex-A53 […]

Lichee Pi 4A RISC-V SBC takes on Raspberry Pi 4 with TH1520 processor

Lichee Pi 4A RISC V SBC

Lichee Pi 4A is a single board computer (SBC) powered by Alibaba T-Head TH1520 quad-core RISC-V Xuantie C910  processor @ 2.0 GHz with an Imagination GPU and a 4 TOPS NPU for AI that can compete against the Raspberry Pi 4 in terms of performance and features. We previously mentioned the Lichee Pi 4A (LPi4A) in our article about the Sipeed LM4A RISC-V system-on-module, but at the time we only had some benchmarks for the board and no photos and specifications about the SBC. Sipeed has now released photos, published detailed specifications, and is taking orders for the board. So let’s have a closer look. Lichee Pi 4A specifications against the ones for Raspberry Pi 4.   The TH1520 used to be advertised at up to 2.5 GHz, but it seems to have now come down to 2.0 GHz. Software support will include Debian, OpenWrt, and Android which should then […]

BIGTREETECH Pad 7 7-inch 3D printer control display runs Klipper on Allwinner H616 SoM or Raspberry Pi CM4

BIGTREETECH Pad 7 Settings

Yesterday, I wrote about the BTT Pi V1.2 Allwinner H616 SBC designed for 3D printers, but also mentioned I had received the Pad 7 from BIGTREETECH which is a software-compatible, but more complete solution with a 7-inch display and an Allwinner H616-powered CB1 system-on-module compatible with the Raspberry Pi CM4. The BIGTREETECH Pad 7 should be more convenient to use with its integrated 7-inch touchscreen display, and if you ever decided you didn’t need it to control your 3D printer anymore, it could always be used as a small Linux computer running Raspberry Pi OS or another operating system. BIGTREETECH Pad 7 specifications: Supported modules BIGTREETECH CB1 v2.2 (included in the kit) – Allwinner H616 quad-core Cortex-A53 CPU with Mali-G31 MP2 GPU, 1GB RAM, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi 4 Raspberry Pi CM4 module with Broadcom BCM2711 quad-core Cortex-A72 CPU with VideoCore IV GPU, 1 to 8GB RAM, 0 to 32GB eMMC […]

PineTab-V RISC-V tablet devkit is based on StarFive JH7110 SoC, PineTab2 design

Pinetab2 RISC-V motherboard

The PineTab-V is a RISC-V tablet, or rather a tablet development kit, based on StarFive JH7110 quad-core RISC-V SoC, and with the same design as the upcoming Arm-based PineTab2 tablet that’s scheduled to launch on April 11. Pine64 just launched the Star64 single board computer to help with software development on Linux-capable RISC-V hardware, and they took the opportunity to lay out a tablet board based on the same JH7110 to replace the Rockchip RK3566 board found in the PineTab2, so eventually, a working sample should look like that… PineTab-V preliminary specifications: SoC – StarFive JH7110 with CPU – Quad-core 64-bit RISC-V (SiFive U74 – RV64GC) processor @ up to 1.5 GHz GPU – Imagination BXE-4-32 GPU @ up to 600 MHz supporting OpenGL ES 3.2, OpenCL 1.2, Vulkan 1.2 VPU 4Kp60 H.265/H.264 video decoder 1080p30 H.265 video encoder System & Storage Option 1 – 4GB LPDDR4, 64GB eMMC flash […]

Rockchip showcases RK3528 TV box SoC and RK3562 tablet SoC

Rockchip RK3528 RK3562

Rockchip showcased some new processors at Mobile World Congress 2023: the RK3528 for TV boxes, and the RK3562 for tablets both with a Cortex-A53 CPU subsystem, but the former comes with a Mali-450 GPU, and the latter with a faster Mali-G52 2EE GPU. Both are clearly for entry-level devices, but I’m a little surprised they didn’t go with Cortex-A55 cores instead. Rockchip demonstrated the new processors in a TV box running Android 13 and a tablet with a 144,506 score in the latest Antutu benchmark as shown below. Rockchip RK3528 preliminary specifications: CPU – Arm Cortex-A53 processor (core count unspecified) GPU – Arm Mali-450 GPU with AFBC compression support Memory – LP4, LP4X, LP3, DDR4, DDR3 Video decoding – Up to 8Kp25 Supported OS – Android 13 Rockchip RK3562 preliminary specifications: CPU – Quad-core Cortex-A53 processor @ 2 GHz GPU – Mali-G52 EE AI accelerator – 1 TOPS NPU VPU […]
