Ka-Ro Electronics’ QS93 is a tiny solder-down NXP i.MX 93 System-on-Module (SoM) running Linux and designed for edge processing. The company also offers a credit card-sized evaluation board that may remind some of the Raspberry Pi with its GPIO header and general layout, but it comes with two Fast Ethernet ports and one USB 2.0 port. We’ve already covered several system-on-modules based on the NXP i.MX 93 Cortex-A55/M33 AI processor including some with high-density board-to-board connectors such as the Compulab UCM-IMX93 and Forlinx FET-MX9352-C, others with a SO-DIMM connector like the VAR-SOM-MX93, and finally some designed to be soldered on the carrier board such as the OSM-L compatible iW-RainboW-G50M, and the QS93 adds to the latter category in a tiny 27×27 mm form factor. Ka-Ro electronics QS93 specifications: SoC – NXP i.MX 93 with CPU – Up to dual-core Cortex-A55 processor @ up to 1.5 GHz Real-time core – Arm […]
Ultra-compact 45x43mm CPU module features TI Sitara AM6231, AM6252, or AM6254 Arm SoC
MYiR Tech has just announced the tiny, yet full-featured MYC-YM62X CPU module powered by Texas Instruments Sitara AM6231, AM6252, or AM6254 Cortex-A53/M4 processor for HMI and IoT applications as well as the corresponding MYD-YM62X development board used for evaluation. The new MYiR module joins other Texas Instruments AM62x system-on-modules such as Toradex Verdin AM62, Forlinx FET625x-C, Variscite VAR-SOM-AM62, and others, but at just 45x43mm, it is the smallest AM62x CPU module we’ve seen so far yet the company says it still provides access to all features from the processor thanks to its 222 castellated holes. MYC-YM62X CPU Module Specifications: SoC (one or the other) Texas Instruments AM6254 (AM6254ATCGGAALW) with quad-core Cortex-A53 @ 1.4GHz, Cortex-M4F real-time core @ 400MHz, 3D GPU, 2x PRU-SS running up to 333MHz Texas Instruments AM6252 (AM6252ATCGGAALW) with dual-core Cortex-A53 @ 1.4GHz, Cortex-M4F real-time core @ 400MHz , no GPU, PRU-SS running up to 333MHz Texas Instruments […]
Chart confirms higher level of Raspberry Pi restocks
Earlier this month, we noted that Raspberry Pi supplies were improving mostly from tweets from Eben Upton who provided data about shipped boards since the beginning of the year. But there are also third-party data that confirm this since RPILocator provides statistics for restocks of Raspberry Pi hardware from approved resellers. The chart below shows weekly data of restocks since January 2022 until today, and we can clearly see a jump in restocks in recent weeks, especially for the Raspberry Pi 4, so there’s no need to steal old boards from discarded scooters anymore 😉 The ramp-up really started on week 25 (June 19-25) and peaked on week 28 (July 10-16) possibly to fill back orders, and restocks have been going down in recent weeks but still at a higher level than previously. While the improvement is mostly visible for the Pi 4, the Raspberry Pi 3 and Raspberry Pi […]
Banana Pi BPI-CM2 – A Raspberry Pi CM4-compatible Rockchip RK3568 SoM with extra I/Os
Banana Pi BPI-CM2 is another Raspberry Pi CM4-compatible system-on-module, this time based on a Rockchip RK3568 quad-core Cortex-A55 SoC and with a twist as besides the two 100-pin high-density connectors, the module adds two 70-pin high-density connectors for the extra I/Os provided by the Rockchip processor such as PCIe 3.0, USB 3.0, eDP, MIPI DSI, and an additional Gigabit Ethernet. The Rockchip RK3568 module comes with many of the same features and options as the Raspberry Pi CM4 with 2GB to 8GB RAM, 8GB to 256GB eMMC flash, optional WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, and an on-module Ethernet transceiver, in this case, a Realtek RTL8211F. Banana Pi BPI-CM2 specifications: SoC – Rockchip RK3568 CPU – Quad-core Cortex-A55 processor @ up to 2.0 GHz GPU – Arm Mali-G52 2EE GPU with support for OpenGL ES 1.1/2.0/3.2, OpenCL 2.0, Vulkan 1.1 AI accelerator – 0.8 TOPS NPU VPU – 4Kp60 H.265/H.264/VP9 […]
Raspberry Pi supplies are improving, but trust may be hard to rebuild with makers
Last December, Eben Upon provided an update about Raspberry Pi availability and expected “unlimited supplied” by H2 2023. Nine months later, Raspberry Pi supplies have indeed improved a lot. Still, some makers with small-volume production have already moved on, and are using alternative solutions. This seems especially true for products based on Raspberry Pi CM4 modules. Tom’s Hardware has just had a fresh look at the Raspberry Pi supply situation, and based on Eben’s tweets noted an increased number of Raspberry Pi boards had shipped in 2023. Eben said June was the second-best month ever for Raspberry Pi Trading with 788,000 units sold, and July looks to breach if the one million units a month is reached, beating the March 2021 records of 814k units. He further expanded saying 119k Zero boards, of which 33k Zero 2 boards (almost entirely consumer), and estimated around 250-400ku went to the retail market. […]

Turing RK1 RK3588 system-on-module for cluster boards is now available (for pre-order)
Turing Pi has been making mini-ITX cluster boards for Raspberry Pi CM4 and NVIDIA Jetson modules for over four years, but last year, the company teased their own Turing RK1 system-on-module based on a powerful Rockchip RK3588 Arm processor with 6 TOPS NPU while launching the Turing Pi 2 cluster board on Kickstarter and raising over 2 million dollars in the process. The Turing RK1 is now available for pre-order with the 8GB RAM going for $130, the 16GB model for $170, and you’d have to spend $260 if you need 32GB RAM. Most people will probably want to add $10 to purchase the RK1 heatsink with a built-in fan as well. Pre-orders are expected to start shipping on October 27. Turing RK1 specifications: SoC – Rockchip RK3588 CPU – Octa-core processor with 4x Arm Cortex-A76 @ 2.4 GHz, 4x Arm Cortex-A55 @ 1.8 GHz GPU – Arm Mali-G610 MP4 […]
Edgeble AI Neural Compute Module 2 (Neu2) follows 96Boards SoM form factor
Edgeble AI’s Neurable Compute Module 2, or Neu2 for shorts, is a system-on-module for computer vision applications based on the Rockchip RV1126 quad-core Cortex-A7 camera processor that follows the 96Boards SoM form factor. I first found the Neu2 and Neu6 (Rockchip RK3588) in the release log for the Linux 6.3 kernel, but at the time I found there was not enough information about those. The specifications for the Neu6 are still wrong (e.g. “64-bit processor with 4x Cortex-A7 core”) at the time of writing, so I’ll check the Neu2 system-on-module and its industrial version – the Neu2K based on RK1126K – for which we have more details. Edgeble Neu2 SoM specifications: SoC – Rockchip RV1126/RV1126K with CPU – Quad-core Arm Cortex-A7 @ 1.5GHz, RISC-V MCU @ 200MHz; (14nm SMIC process) GPU – 2D graphics engine NPU – 2 TOPS with INT8/INT16 VPU 4K H.264/H.265 video encoder up to 3840 x […]
