Canonical now officially supports Ubuntu on NVIDIA Jetson system-on-modules

Canonical Ubuntu NVIDIA Jetson

The NVIDIA JetPack SDK has been based on Ubuntu ever since it was created (although the Jetpack 6 SDK changed that somewhat), so I was surprised to read that Canonical now officially supports Ubuntu on NVIDIA Jetson, since I assumed there may have already been a partnership in place. The announcement explains that Canonical has announced the General Availability (GA) of Ubuntu for the NVIDIA Jetson Orin for edge AI and robotics “bringing enterprise-grade stability and support” to the popular system-on-modules. Canonical further explains the collaboration enables better performance with optimized Ubuntu images for the NVIDIA Jetson platform, enterprise-level security with updates and long-term support,  a unified environment from edge to cloud, and improved stability and reliability with Canonical’s QA team performing over 500 OS compatibility-focused hardware tests. If we visit the NVIDIA Jetson page of the Ubuntu website, we’ll find Ubuntu Server 22.04 images for the Jetson AGX Orin, […]

Phison’s aiDAPTIV+ AI solution leverages SSDs to expand GPU memory for LLM training

Phison's aiDAPTIVCache family support 70B model

While looking for new and interesting products I found ADLINK’s DLAP Supreme series, a series of Edge AI devices built around the NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin platform. But that was not the interesting part, what got my attention was it has support for something called the aiDAPTIV+ technology which made us curious. Upon looking we found that the aiDAPTIV+ AI solution is a hybrid (software and hardware) solution that uses readily available low-cost NAND flash storage to enhance the capabilities of GPUs to streamline and scale large-language model (LLM) training for small and medium-sized businesses. This design allows organizations to train their data models on standard, off-the-shelf hardware, overcoming limitations with more complex models like Llama-2 7B. The solution supports up to 70B model parameters with low latency and high-endurance storage (100 DWPD) using SLC NAND. It is designed to easily integrate with existing AI applications without requiring hardware changes, […]

Linux 6.13 Release – Main changes, Arm, RISC-V, and MIPS architectures

Linux 6.13 Changelog

Linus Torvalds has just announced the release of Linux 6.13 on the Linux Kernel Mailing List: So nothing horrible or unexpected happened last week, so I’ve tagged and pushed out the final 6.13 release. It’s mostly some final driver fixes (gpu and networking dominating – normal), with some doc updates too. And various little stuff all over. The shortlog is appended for people who want to see the details (and, as always, it’s just the shortlog for the last week, the full 6.13 log is obviously much too big). With this, the merge window for 6.14 will obviously open tomorrow. I already have two dozen pull requests pending – thank you, you know who you are. Linus Release about two months ago, Linux 6.12 – the new LTS version – brought us real-time “PREEMPT_RT” support that had always required out-of-tree patchsets until now, the completion of the EEVDF (Earliest Eligible […]

Firefly’s CSB1-N10 series AI cluster servers can deliver up to 1000 TOPS of AI power with Rockchip or NVIDIA Jetson Modules

CSB1 N10 series AI cluster servers

Firefly has recently introduced the CSB1-N10 series AI cluster servers designed for applications such as natural language processing, robotics, and image generation. These 1U rack-mounted servers are ideal for data centers, private servers, and edge deployments. The servers have multiple computing nodes, featuring either energy-efficient processors (Rockchip RK3588, RK3576, or SOPHON BM1688) or high-performance NVIDIA Jetson modules (Orin Nano, Orin NX). With 60 to 1000 TOPS AI power, the CSB1-N10 servers can handle the demands of large AI models, including language models like Gemma-2B and Llama3, as well as visual models like EfficientVIT and Stable Diffusion. CSB1-N10 series specifications All CSB1-N10 AI servers have the same interfaces, and the only differences are the CPU, memory, storage, multimedia, AI capabilities, and related software support. So it’s likely Firefly has made Rockchip system-on-modules compatible with NVIDIA Jetson SO-DIMM form factor, and indeed we previously noted that Firefly designed Core-1688JD4, Core-3576JD4, or Core-3588JD4 […]
