Netgem, a company specializing in Connected TV & Home, has sent a press release about profit growth, and two new “innovations int its smart home roadmap” with voice control with Amazon, and SoundBox, a connected speaker which embeds set-top box technology. Netgem does not sell directly to consumers, but instead sell its products and solutions to service providers, and they have not provided a great deal of technical details. But we still know the company has improved Netgem Home Platform, a cloud service allowing the deployment and management of multi-screen features, content discoverability, with support for multi-room, multi-source music service through technology from Voxtok. SoundBox will then offer both video and audio service, and be controlled by voice using Amazon Alexa. The SoundBox will be customized for each Telco to adapt to the needs of local markets. Netgem N7500 & N9700 Media Centers and N8400 Media Server
Netgem will be present at IBC 2011 in Amsterdam this week. They have updated their website this week, where we can see their current Sigma Designs platform such as the N5200 Internet OTT adapter and N8200 Media Center as well as the new platform based on Broadcom solutions namely: N7500 Media Center based on Broadcom BCM7230 with 1 Tuner and flash storage N8400 Media Server based on Broadcom BCM7413 with 2 to 4 tuners and HDD. In a separate presentation, they also mention the Netbox N9700 which will be released in 2012. There is no mention of the processor used (probably Broadcom) , but the device will support Netgen nCloud Core features (IPTV, Broadcast TV, Pay TV and PVR functions) and nCloud Advances features (Broadcast to 4/6 screens, download to own, download to go, multimedia NAS and convert media to mobile). Netgem announced the release of its “Home Cloud” SDK based on IPTV 2.0 open architecture. Netgem Set-top-box N5000 – Toshiba Places
Mid-september, Netgem showcased their new set-top box at IBC 2010: the Netbox N5000 Internet/TV Adaptor. A modified version of this Set-top box will be used by Toshiba (Toshiba places) and be available for purchase for 99 Euros starting in October 2010 in France and later in 2011 in some other Europeans countries. They’ll either provide Infrared or RF remotes depending on the end customer requirements. The back of the set-top box features TV In/Out, Digital Audio (S/PDIF) output, HDMI output, an Ethernet port and the power jack (+12V).
