AMD Introduces Embedded G-Series “Steppe Eagle” SoCs and “Crowned Eagle” CPUs

AMD has added six new members to is Embedded G-Series family with “Steppe Eagle” SoCs comprising a CPU, GPU and I/O in a single chip, and “Crowned Eagle” CPUs that are not actually CPUs in the old sense, but SoCs comprised of a CPU and I/O chipset, and all of them also include AMD’s ARM based PSP (Platform Security Processor) built upon ARM TrustZone architecture. You may also remember AMD G-Series APUs which are comprised of a CPU and GPU, and connected to an external I/O chipset, but none of these were announced today. The six new AMD G-Series processors are as follows: “Steppe Eagle” SoCs: GX-424CC – Quad core @ 2.4 GHz with 2MB L2 cache, and a GPU @ 497MHz. DDR3-1866 support. Aaeon Announces CoMs, 3.5″ & mini ITX Embedded Boards Powered by Intel Bay Trail Processors

AAEON has announced the release three embedded boards and modules based on Intel Celeron J1900, N2930, N2807 and Atom E3800 series processors, which are all part of Intel’s low power Bay Trail family. Congatec Unveils conga-IGX Industrial mini-ITX Boards Powered by AMD G-series SoC

Congatec has recently introduced three new industrial Mini-ITX motherboards powered by dual and quad AMD Embedded G-Series SoCs, namely GX-210HA, GX-217GA, and GX-420CA, all integrated Radeon HD graphics. The company’s conga-IGX embedded motherboards are said to be particularly suited for cost-sensitive visualization and control applications. Wibtek TJ1800G & TJ1900G “Thin mini-ITX” Boards with Bay Trail-D Processors for DIY All-in-One Computers and mini PCs

Intel has made great progress in the low cost low power computer space thanks to Bay Trail based mini-ITX motherboards such as MSI J1800i and BIOSTAR J1800NH both with an Intel Celeron J1800 processor (10 W TDP) and selling for around $60, or the latest Intel NUC mini PC selling for $140 with a 7.5W TDP Celeron N2820. One of the requirements of mini-ITX specifications suggest boards to feature 20- or 24-pin “original ATX” power connectors, which requires a an ATX PSU, and adds to costs. Habey Unveils MITX-6500 mini-ITX Embedded Board Powered by Freescale i.MX53

There aren’t many mini-ITX ARM board, and the only one I can recall is Kontron KTT30/mITX based on Nvidia Tegra 3. But there’s now at least one more mini-ITX ARM board thanks to Habey MITX-6500 embedded board. This mini-ITX board feature Freescale i.MX535 or i.MX536 processors, 1GB DDR3 and a 4GB on-board SSD. Since this is mainly an industrial board, it also features 2 Ethernet NIC and a whooping 13 COM ports.
