We’ve seen plenty of mini laptops with 6″ to 9″ displays in the last couple of years, mainly from GPD and One Netbook, and to a lesser extend from CHUWI. But so far, I had not seen one with 5G connectivity, and the latest One Netbook OneGx1 mini laptop with a 7″ display and powered by an Amber Lake processor, does offer a 5G model, besides its WiFi 6 and 4G LTE variants. Intel unveiled plans for Lakefield Hybrid processors last year which combined a high-performance Sunny Cove core with four low-power Atom cores using Foveros 3D stacking technology and offering high peak single-thread performance and low power consumption for most tasks in a similar way to Arm’s big.LITTLE or DynamIQ technology. The company has now launched the first two penta-core Lakefield hybrid processors with Core i5-L16G7 and Core i3-L13G4 processors both with a 7W SDP (Scenario Design Power), but no TDP number which makes sense considering the Hybrid nature of the processor. Arm just announced Cortex-A78 and Cortex-X1 CPU cores last week, and we should expect several silicon vendors to announce new SoCs based on the new cores by the end of the year.  But AMD? Yes, according to a now-deleted leak from Slashleaks that lives on Twitter. Last week, we covered AMD Ryzen PRO 4000 processors with 15W TDP targeting ultra-thin business laptops with PRO features such as security, manageability, reliability, and longevity which are needed by enterprise customers. AMD compared the performance of their new processors to Intel Comet Lake processors without PRO features, but Intel has now just announced several Comet Lake processors with Intel VPro, including three 15W parts aims at the same markets as AMD Ryzen PRO 4000 processors. MNT Reform DIY Arm Linux laptop has been in the works at least since 2017. The open source hardware laptop is also fully modular with Boundary Devices Nitrogen8M SoM featuring NXP i.MX 8M quad-core Cortex-A53 processor and 4GB RAM, M.2 NVMe SSD storage, and standard, replaceable 18650 batteries. AMD announced 15W to 45W mobile processors at CES 2020 with AMD Ryzen 4000-U series processors designed for ultra-thin laptops.  The company has now unveiled AMD Ryzen PRO 4000 series mobile processors for business customers requiring features usually found in Intel vPro processor with AMD PRO Technologies including improved security, manageability, reliability, and longevity with at least 24-months of planned availability.
