Samsung Unveils Galaxy Note 4 and Note Edge with Curved Display

IFA 2014 tradeshow is just starting today, and will last until the 9th of September, but several companies have made announcements just before the show. TCL and Tencent Launch iCE SCREEN 26″ Mobile Android Display

TCL and Tencent have jointly launched the iCE SCREEN, a “large screen mobile entertainment smart cloud product” featuring a 26″ screen with 1366×768 resolution. The companies expect this new type of smart TV to be used as  large portable screen, a video player, a music and photo album and an high-definition video communications device. You would have thought a device with such a name to use an operating system such as Android “iCE SCREEN” sandwich (sorry I had to),  but Engadget Chinese reports it  to feature a customized version of Android 2.2, and in the press release, the companies referred to it as “independent operating system” that enables internet access to all sort of cloud based applications such as video playback, audio streaming and gaming. NTT Docomo Showcases Smartphone Prototype with See-through Touch Panel

NTT Docomo and Fujitsus have jointly developed a smartphone prototype with a 2.4″ see-through OLED display (QVGA) that has touch sensors both on its front and back sides and NTT Docomo is currently exhibiting the device and showcasing the corresponding new innovative user interface at Wireless Japan 2012, until June 1, 2012, in Tokyo. Nippon Electric Showcases (Quasi) Invisible Glass

Nippon Electric Glass Co Ltd developed a glass substrate that it calls “invisible glass” and exhibited it at FPD International 2011. The company reduced the reflection of light so that light reflections can hardly be seen on the glass substrate. Many visitors at the exhibitions were said to be  gazing at the invisible glass with surprised looks on their faces. Nippon Electric Glass reduced the the reflection of light by forming an anti-reflection film on each of the front and back sides of the glass substrate. In the case of a normal glass substrate, about 92% of incoming light passes through it, and the rest 8% of the light is reflected on it. On the other hand, about 99.5% of incoming light passes through the new glass substrate. So, only about 0.5% of the light is reflected on it.
