The company has announced a total of 12 Elkhart Lake processors with all but one featuring 10th Generation Intel UHD Graphics and divided into eight Atom x6000E series processors. and four Celeron/Pentium parts Intel further explains Elkhart Lake IoT edge processors deliver up to two times better 3D graphics compared to Pentium J4205 Apollo Lake processor, come with Intel Programmable Services Engine real-time offload engine with support for out-of-band and in-band […]

TechNexion Unveils EDM and AXON SoM’s Powered by NXP i.MX8M Plus SoC

AXON-E-IMX8M-PLUS

A few days ago we wrote about Variscite’s NXP i.MX 8M Plus-powered AI systems-on-modules and devkits, and now it’s TechNexion’s turn to introduce its own SoM’s for artificial intelligence applications. Just like variscite, the company has two variants with EDM-G-IMX8M-PLUS following the EDM standard with a 260-pin edge connector, and AXON-E-IMX8M-PLUS part of the AXON family with board-to-board connectors better suited to vibration-prone applications. Besides the form factor and different default storage  capacities, both SoM’s share the same specifications: SoC – NXP i.MX8M Plus quad-core Cortex-A53 processor @ up to 1.8 GHz with Cortex-M7 real-time core @ 400 MHz, Vivante GC520L 2D GPU, Vivante GC7000UL 3D GPU, 1080p60 hardware decoder (HEVC, H.264, VP9, and VP8) and encode (H.265/H.264), and 2.3 TOPS NPU System Memory – Up to 8 GB LPDDR4 Storage AXON-E-IMX8M-PLUS – 32 GB eMMC flash by default EDM-G-IMX8M-PLUS – 16 GB eMMC flash by default Networking Chips Qualcomm […]

MYIR launches FZ5 EdgeBoard AI Box for AI on the Edge

FZ5 EdgeBoard AI Box

Back in July of this year (2020), MYRI technology announced the MYIR’s FZ3 deep learning accelerator card powered by the Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ ZU3EG Arm FPGA MPSoC and it is capable of delivering up to 1.2TOPS computing power. With only a few months since that launch, MYRI technology is now announcing another two related sets of products – FZ5 EdgeBoard AI Box and the FZ5 Card. The FZ5 EdgeBoard AI Box is an AI-focused computing platform that is based on the FZ5 AI Accelerator card which is an upgrade of the FZ3 card. The FZ5 looks more like a single board computer than an actual computing card. The FZ5 accelerator is powered by the Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ ZU5EV MPSoC which features a 1.5 GHz quad-core Arm Cortex-A53 64-bit application processor, a 600MHz dual-core real-time Arm Cortex-R5 processor, a Mali400 embedded GPU and is capable of delivering up to 2.4 TFLOPS as compared […]

Microchip SAMD21 Machine Learning Evaluation Kits Work with Cartesiam, Edge Impulse and Motion Gestures Solutions

SAMD21 Machine Learning

While it all started in the cloud Artificial Intelligence is now moving at the very edge is ultra-low power nodes, and Microchip has launched two SAMD21 Arm Cortex-M0+ machine learning evaluation kits that now work with AI/ML solutions from Cartesiam, Edge Impulse, and Motion Gestures. Bot machine learning evaluation kits come with SAMD21G18 Arm Cortex-M0+  32-bit MCU, an on-board debugger (nEDBG), an ATECC608A CryptoAuthentication secure element, ATWINC1510 Wi-Fi network controller, as well as Microchip MCP9808 high accuracy temperature sensor and a light sensor. But EV45Y33A development kit is equipped with an add-on board featuring Bosch’s BMI160 low-power Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), while EV18H79A features an add-on board with TDK InvenSense ICM-42688-P  6-axis MEMS. The photo above makes it clear both SAMD21 machine learning evaluation kits rely on the same baseboard with a MikroBus socket connected to either 6DOF IMU 2click or 6DOF IMU 14 click add-on board from MikroElektronika. Both […]

CrowPi2 Raspberry Pi 4 Education Laptop Review

CrowPi2 Raspberry Pi Laptop Review

I started my review of CrowPi2 Raspberry Pi 4 Learning Kit a while ago and at the time I showed content from the kit and its first boot. I’ve now spent more time with this very special Raspberry Pi 4 laptop and will focus this review on the education part, namely CrowPi2 software, but will also look at thermal cooling under stress with and without a fan, and try to install another Raspberry Pi compatible board inside the laptop shell. CrowPi2 Education Software It’s quite important to read the user manual before getting started as there are a few non-intuitive steps you may have to take. First I assume the wireless keyboard would just connect after pressing the power button, but it did not. The user manual explains the RF dongle is inside the mouse, and once you connect it you’ll be able to use the keyboard that has some […]

Intel Launches 11th Gen Intel Core “Tiger Lake” Processors with Intel Iris Xe graphics

Intel Tiger Lake

Intel has officially launched Tiger Lake processors for thin-and-light Laptops. The new 11th generation processors come with either Intel Iris Xe graphics or the older Intel UHD graphics, and nine processors are currently available divided into two families: UP3 with 12W to 28W configurable TDP, and UP4 with 7W to 15W configurable TDP. Manufactured with a 10nm process, the new processors are said to deliver up to 2.7x faster content creation (Photo Editing), more than 20% faster office productivity in Office 365, and more than 2x faster gaming plus streaming when comparing an Intel Core i7-1185G7 processor to AMD Ryzen 7 4800U. The new Intel Iris Xe graphics comes with up to 96 EUs and up to 16MB of L3 cache, and Intel claims it outperforms 90% of the discrete graphics usually paired with U-series processors. Tiger Lake processors also integrate a new DP4a instruction set for neural network inferencing […]
