Atmel AT91SAM9 – or simply Atmel SAM9 – series are versatile microcontrollers and embedded microprocessors used in variety of products such as internet radios, embedded p2p downloaders, smart grid in-home displays, and much more. Atmel SAM9 series are divided into five subsets: The original SAM9 MCU based on ARM926EJ-S running at between 210 and 240 Mhz, namely AT91SAM9260, AT91SAM9261, AT91SAM9261S and AT91SAM9263 SAM9G eMPU (Embedded MPU) based on ARM926EJ-S, a new generation based on SAM9 MCU architecture but running at between 266 and 400Mhz: AT91SAM9G10, AT91SAM9G20, AT91SAM9G45 and AT91SAM9G46. Samsung Super Amoled Plus Displays

Samsung further improved their Super AMOLED technology and designed “Super AMOLED Plus” screens with the following characteristics: Easier Reading: Improved screen image (50% more sub-pixels (8 to 12)) Save Power Consumption: Real Black (i.e no energy is used to display black) Slimmer: Reduced panel depth by 14% This new technology will improve contrast and outdoor visibility. Samsung will release 2 smartphones (Samsung Infuse 4G – i997)  using that technology later this year (Q2 2011) with 4.3″ and 4.5″ screens, using 1.2 GHz single core hummingbird processor and running Android 2.3 (gingerbread). 3D Capable Android Tablet: iStation Zood (Z3D)

iStation, a south korean company, announced the iStation Zood (codenamed Z3D) one the first (if not the first) stereoscopic 3D capable Android Tablet. You’ll need 3D content and wear polarised 3D glasses to take advantage of it. It features a 7″ multi-touch capacitive touchscreen and is powered by a Telechips ARM11 core processor (TCC8900?) running Android 2.1. The performance does not seem that great, but it’s still usable and being based on Telechips the price should be relatively low. Rockchip RK29xx Processors at CES 2011

Rockchip (瑞芯微电子), a Fuzhou (China) based company, showcased its new RK29XX processors at CES 2011. The processors are aimed at smartphones, mid, tablet and internet tv (smart tv) and compete directly with the like of Qualcomm snapdragon or Samsung Hummingbird. Here are the specs for the RK29XX series: 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex A8 core with Neon and 512KB L2 cache High performance 2D and 3D processors supporting OpenGL ES 2.0 and Open VG. A Pico Projector and Android in a Light Bulb

Seco, an Italian company, specialized in Embedded Systems development has developed a light bulb with a pico projector (DLP) that replaces your light bulb and project videos/pictures or anything you can think of on your wall. The product is supposedly 99% made with Texas Instruments chipsets, mainly Texas Instruments OMAP3530 processor (ARM Cortex A8) and it runs Android, WiFi, Bluetooth, inside a lamp. The maximum power consumption is 25 W (green bulb maximum power consumption). This is currently a prototype and could cost between 200 and 400 USD retail. A microphone and speaker is also available, so it could possibly be used with Skype. Have a look this really seems promising. Motorola Atrix 4G: A mobile turns into a Laptop

Motorola showcased the Atrix 4g smartphone based on NVidia Tegra 2 and running Android 2.2 (upgradable to Android 2.3 gingerbread later in 2011). It can be plugged directly into an ultra-thin laptop chassis (Laptop Dock for Motorola Atrix 4G). Motorola calls that a WebTop. The dock itself has a resolution of 1366×768 but the phone can support up to 1280×1024 in Desktop Mode. Contrary to Lenovo LePad, where the dock has an Intel iCore processor, all processor is done by the smartphone. Once in the dock you’ll be able to use the keyboard and mouse to check your emails (Gmail), play videos (720p supported, but 480p is recommended for smoothness), send SMS, browse the web with Mozilla Firefox (Add-ons are also supported) and more. Lenovo LePad Android Qualcomm SnapDragon Tablet with Intel iCore Dock

CES has just started and Leveno showcased their new Android 2.2 tablet (Lenovo LePad) based on Qualcomm Snapdragon (MSM8x60?) @ 1.3GHz with 1GB RAM, a 10.1″ Capacitive touchscreen (1280×800). Currently on the Wifi version is available, but a 3G/GPS version will be available later this year. The Wifi version will start to sell this month for around 500 USD in China. They use their own UI called “Four Square” on top of Android, the same currently on their phones (LePhone). Lenovo also innovated by providing a dock for their tablet. Once you connect the tablet to the dock TaDa! it becomes a laptop based on Intel iCore 5 running Windows 7. The Intel dock will cost 800 USD.
