It’s not often we come across an Intel Xeon SBC, but that’s just what AAEON EPIC-TGH7 single board computer offers thanks to a choice of Intel Tiger Lake H processors up to the Xeon W-11865MRE octa-core/16-thread processor. So far, we had only written about Tiger Lake H-based COM Express and COM HPC modules from companies such as ADLink, Congatec, and Portwell, and the EPIC-TGH7 is the first proper SBC we’ve seen with the industrial processors. It supports up to 64GB RAM through two SO-DIMM sockets, SATA and NVME storage, offers 2.5GbE and Gigabit Ethernet ports, five video interfaces, eight USB 3.2/2.0 interfaces, and more. AAEON EPIC-TGH7 specifications: Tiger Lake-H SoC (one or the other) Intel Xeon W-11865MRE 8-core/16-thread @ 2.60GHz / 4.70GHz (Turbo) with 32 EU Intel UHD Graphics; TDP: 35-45W Intel Core i7-11850HE 8-core/16-thread processor @ 2.60GHz / 4.70GHz (Turbo) with 32 EU Intel UHD Graphics; TDP: 35-45W Intel […]

LattePanda 3 Delta 864 specifications remain the same also with a few extra details: SoC – Intel Celeron N5105 quad-core Jasper Lake processor @ 2.0GHz / 2.9GHz (Turbo) with Intel UHD graphics 605 @ 450 to 800 MHz; 10W TDP System Memory – 8GB LPDDR4 @ 2933 MHz Storage 64GB eMMC 5.1 flash Support for M.2 NVMe or SATA SSD (See Expansion section) MicroSD card socket MCU – Microchip ATmega32U4-MU 8-bit AVR Arduino Leonardo compatible microcontroller Video Output HDMI […]
Another consequence of supply shortage: mass production mishaps
Chips may suddenly disappear from the supply chain or get really expensive due to the recurring supply shortage, companies are now designing their PCBs to support multiple chips either selecting drop-in replacements or creating multiple footprints to cater to at least one alternative part. That means one PCB and multiple bill-of-materials are needed to be more resilient to any supply disruption. Radxa did that on the ROCK 3A board for the USB PD circuitry with the ability to use either Injoinic IP2315 or WCH CH224D IC. Those are not pin-to-pin compatible chips, and two circuitry were made for the board requiring two BoMs as it’s not just possible to only replace IP2315 by CH224D. But this information did not get to the inventory manager, and once IP2315 was out of stock, he/she believed it would be possible to simply replace IP2315 with CH224D. The unlucky part is that the factory […]

Compact3566 – A Rockchip RK3566 SBC that closely follows Raspberry Pi 3 form factor
We’ve very recently written about Geniatech XPI-3566 SBC powered by Rockchip RK3566 CPU that somewhat follows the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B form factor. Boardcon Compact3566 offers similar features, but it appears to keep exactly the same port assignment as the Raspberry Pi SBC, so it should be compatible with more accessories. The Compact3566 SBC ships with up to 8GB LPDDR4 and 128GB eMMC flash, features Gigabit Ethernet & WiFi 5, four USB 3.0/2.0 ports, HDMI 2.0 output, MIPI DSI and CSI interfaces, the 40-pin GPIO header, as well as extra built-in features such as an M.2 socket for storage, RTC with battery, and a built-in microphone. Compact3566 specifications: SoC – Rockchip RK3566 quad-core Arm Cortex-A55 @ up to 1.8 GHz with ARM Mali-G52 2EE GPU with support for OpenGL ES 1.1/2.0/3.2. OpenCL 2.0.
