MediaTek T750 5G Chipset to Power Fixed Wireless Access Routers and 5G Mobile Hotspots

Mediatek T750 5G SoC for Routers

Most of the 5G modem we covered are designed for mobile devices, but 5G technology also brings opportunities for fixed wireless access routers (FWA routers) potentially replacing fixed broadband modem routers, as well as for 5G mobile hotspots to add coverage in areas without reliable cellular signal. Those are the two markets targetted by the just-announced 7nm MediaTek T750 quad-core Arm processor with support for sub-6GHz frequencies aiming to affordable broadband connectivity to areas with limited DSL, cable, or fiber services, or on the contrary adding wireless services in suburban, rural, and less developed areas. Mediatek T750 5G SoC highlights: Processor – Quad-core Arm Cortex-A55 CPU GPU / Display – Embedded GPU and display driver to support up to 720p displays Cellular Networking 5G NR FR1 modem with sub-6GHz frequencies support and two-component carrier aggregation (2CC CA) for extended coverage Standalone and non-standalone (SA/NSA) modes supported 5CC LTE carrier aggregation […]

One Netbook OneGx1 Mini Laptop Supports WiFi 6, 4G LTE or 5G Connectivity

ONE NETBOOK OneGx1 Amber Lake Mini Laptop

We’ve seen plenty of mini laptops with 6″ to 9″ displays in the last couple of years, mainly from GPD and One Netbook, and to a lesser extend from CHUWI. But so far, I had not seen one with 5G connectivity, and the latest One Netbook OneGx1 mini laptop with a 7″ display and powered by an Amber Lake processor, does offer a 5G model, besides its WiFi 6 and 4G LTE variants. OneGx1 mini laptop specifications: SoC – Intel Core i5-10210Y Amber Lake-Y quad-core/octa-thread processor @ 1.0 GHz (base) / 4.0 GHz (turbo one core) / 2.7 GHz (turbo all cores) with 24 EU Intel UHD Graphics @ up to 1.05 GHz; 6MB cache; 7W TDP (configurable) System Memory & Storage Options 8GB LPDDR3 RAM, 256GB M.2 NVMe SSD, MicroSD card up to 128GB 16GB LPDDR3 RAM and 512GB M.2 NVMe SSD, MicroSD card up to 128GB Display – […]

I was just informed about a Qualcomm IPQ8074 embedded board going under the names DR8074A or HK01 depending on the company promoting it, respectively Wallys Communication and Compex. Qualcomm IPQ8074 embedded board (AP.HK01) specifications: SoC – Qualcomm Atheros IPQ8074A quad-core Arm Cortex A53 processor 2.2GHz CPU System Memory – 1GB (2x 512MB) DDR3L RAM (Option for up to 4GB) Storage – 8GB eMMC flash, 32MB NOR Flash, 256MB NAND flash, 1x micro SD Card socket Connectivity Wired 5x Gigabit Ethernet (1GbE) RJ45 ports 1x 10Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) RJ45 port 1x SFP+ Port WiFi On-board 4×4 2.4GHz MU-MIMO 802.11b/g/n/ax WiFi 6 up to 1147Mbps On-board 2x(4×4) or 8×8 5GHz MU-MIMO 802.11a/n/ac/ax WiFI 6 up to […]

Linux 5.7 Released – Main Changes, Arm, MIPS and RISC-V Architectures

Linux 5.7 Changelog

OK… I’m a bit late on that one. Linus Torvalds released Linux 5.7 last week: So we had a fairly calm last week, with nothing really screaming “let’s delay one more rc”. Knock wood – let’s hope we don’t have anything silly lurking this time, like the last-minute wifi regression we had in 5.6.. But embarrassing regressions last time notwithstanding, it all looks fine. And most of the discussion I’ve seen the last week or two has been about upcoming features, so the merge window is now open  and I’ll start processing pull requests tomorrow as usual. But in the meantime, please give this a whirl. We’ve got a lot of changes in 5.7 as usual (all the stats look normal – but “normal” for us obviously pretty big and means “almost 14 thousand non-merge commits all over, from close to two thousand developers”), So the appended shortlog is only […]
