AMLogic regularly releases source code for this processor, and the post “AMLogic Releases U-Boot and Updated Linux Kernel Source Code” explains how to build U-Boot, and “AMLogic Releases AML8726-MX Linux 3.0.8 Source Code explains how to build the Linux kernel. Bear in mind, these instructions were published in 2012, so you may want to check openlinux.amlogic.com for details.

The rest of how-tos are more user related with steps detailing how to root and unbrick Droid Stick A2, an HDMI TV dongle based on AMLogic AML8726-MX dual core Cortex A9 SoC. The instructions should also work with other AMLogic based devices.

AMLogic processor are working great with XBMC for Android or Linux, but most products ship with the Android version. If you just want to use XBMC, the Linux version may be more convenient and offer slightly better performance. I’ve explained how to install XBMC Linux on some AMLogic based media players.
