Orbbec Femto Bolt is a 3D depth and RGB USB-C camera developed in collaboration with Microsoft and integrating the same ToF (Time-of-Flight) technology as found in the Microsoft Azure Kinect camera module and HoloLens 2 mixed reality head-mounted display. The new model follows the launch of the fully integrated Femto Mega featuring an NVIDIA Jetson Nano module introduced in January with the same ToF technology, so the new USB-C camera simply allows a wider selection of hosts. Orbbec has also launched the Femto Mega I variant with an IP65 metal enclosure. Aetina has launched fanless edge AI embedded box PCs powered by NVIDIA Jetson Orin system-on-modules (SoM), namely the AIE-CN31/41, AIE-CO21/31, AIE-PN32/42, and AIE-PO22/32 models featuring the Orin NX or Orin Nano modules, and the AIE-PX11/12/21/22 and AIE-PX13/23 embedded systems fitted with the more powerful Jetson AGX Orin module. All new fanless Ubuntu 20.04 embedded computers are suitable for AI-powered applications and work in an operating temperature range of -25°C to +55°C. Robotic arms can be expensive especially if you want one with AI Vision support, but Yahboom DOFBOT robotic arm designed for NVIDIA Jetson Nano offers a lower cost alternative as the 6 DoF robot arm sells for about $289 with a VGA camera, or $481 with the Jetson Nano SBC included. We previously published a review of the myCobot 280 Pi robotic arm from Elephant Robotics, and while it’s working well, supports computer vision through the Raspberry Pi, and is nicely packaged, it sells for around $800 and up depending on the accessories, and one reader complained the “price tag is still way too high for exploration“. NVIDIA has recently introduced the Jetson AGX Orin Industrial module that comes with an extended temperature range, operating lifetime, shock and vibration specifications, as well as support for error correction code (ECC) memory, and delivers up to 248 TOPS of AI performance with power configurable between 15-75 W. The industrial-grade system-on-module is based on the Jetson AGX Orin 64GB module but with lower operating frequencies to enable a longer operating lifetime and improved endurance. It’s form-factor and pin-compatible with Jetson AGX Orin, and NVIDIA says it delivers more than eight times the AI performance of the 30 TOPS Jetson AGX Xavier Industrial introduced in 2021, but does not integrate Cortex-R5F cores. We covered the actively-cooled reComputer J4012 Edge AI mini PC powered by Jetson Orin NX system-on-module last January, but Seeed Studio has now launched four fanless “reComputer Industrial” variants with an aluminum case, two Gigabit Ethernet ports, three USB 3.2 ports, an RS232/RS422/RS485 serial port, and a terminal block with four DI, four DO, and a CAN Bus.
