Linux 5.15 LTS release – Main Changes, Arm, RISC-V and MIPS architectures

Linux 5.15

Linus Torvalds released Linux 5.15, an LTS version, this past Sunday: It’s been calm, and I have no excuse to add an extra rc, so here we are, with v5.15 pushed out, and the merge window starting tomorrow. Which is going to be a bit inconvenient for me, since I also have some conference travel coming up. But it’s only a couple of days and I’ll have my laptop with me. Sometimes the release timing works out, and sometimes it doesn’t.. Anyway, the last week of 5.15 was mainly networking and gpu fixes, with some random sprinkling of other things (a few btrfs reverts, some kvm updates, minor other fixes here and there – a few architecture fixes, couple of tracing, small driver fixes etc). Full shortlog appended. This release may have started out with some -Werror pain, but it calmed down fairly quickly and on the whole 5.15 was […]

Jetson SUB mini PC ships with Xavier NX SoM, 128GB SSD

Jetson SUB mini PC

Jetson SUB is a mini PC powered by NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX module and equipped with a 512GB 128GB SSD, a WiFi module, all housed in an aluminum case with a cooling fan. [Update Nov 1, 2021: Seeed Studio informed me the SSD would only have 128 GB capacity] Preloaded with NVIDIA Jetpack, the mini PC is designed for higher-end edge AI and IoT workloads leveraging the 384 NVIDIA CUDA cores, 48 Tensor cores, the hexa-core Carmel 64-bit Arm processor, and the two NVIDIA Deep Learning Accelerators (NVDLA) engines from the Xavier NX SoC. Jetson SUB mini PC specifications: NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX module CPU – 6-core NVIDIA Carmel ARMv8.2 64-bit processor with 6 MB L2 + 4 MB L3 cache GPU – NVIDIA Volta architecture with 384 NVIDIA CUDA cores and 48 Tensor cores Accelerators – 2x NVDLA Engines, 7-Way VLIW Vision Processor Video – Multiple 4Kp60 encode, multiple […]

NVIDIA Jetson Nano/Xavier NX carrier board offers 5 SATA, 6 CSI camera, dual GbE, and more

Leetop A205 Jetson Nano/Xavier NX carrier board

Leetop has introduced two carrier boards for NVIDIA Jetson Nano or Xavier NX modules, with Leetop A205 a full-featured carrier board offering five SATA ports, six MIPI CSI camera interfaces, an M.2 Key E slot, dual Gigabit Ethernet, four USB 3.0 ports, dual HDMI output and more, as well as the more compact Leetop A203 about the size of the modules themselves and offering Gigabit Ethernet, HDMI output, USB 3.0/2.0 ports, a camera interface, and an M.2 slot for optional WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity. We’ll focus on the former in this article, as it offers more features, and the smaller board provides less functionality than the NVIDIA Jetson Nano developer kit at a much higher price, although I understand it can still be useful for space-constrained applications. Leetop A205 specifications: Supported SoMs –  NVIDIA Jetson Nano and Jetson Xavier NX Module Compatibility Storage – 5x SATA ports, MicroSD card slot […]

Jetson Nano & Xavier NX carrier board offers 3x M.2 sockets, 10x RS232/RS485 interfaces

Jetson Nano & Xavier NX Carrier Board

Geniatech NVJ100AI/NVJ100AIX is a carrier board fitted with either Jetson Nano or Jetson Xavier NX SoM with good expansion capabilities thanks to three M.2 sockets and ten RS232 and/or RS485 interfaces, plus the usual Gigabit Ethernet, USB ports, HDMI video interface, etc… Geniatech NVJ100AI/NVJ100AIX specifications: SoM Geniatech NVJ100AI  – NVIDIA Jetson Nano with CPU – Quad-core Arm Cortex A57 MPCore processor @ up to 1.43 GHz GPU – Maxwell GPU, 128 CUDA core up to 512 GFLOPS (FP16) System Memory – 4GB LPDDR4 Storage – 16GB eMMC flash AI Performance – Up to 472 GFLOPS in 10 Watts mode Geniatech NVJ100AIX – NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX CPU – Hexa-core NVIDIA Carmel ARMv8.2 64-bit CPU with 6MB L2 + 4MB L3 cache GPU – 384-core NVIDIA Volta GPU with 48 Tensor Cores Dedicated AI accelerators – 2x NVDLA Engines, 7-Way VLIW Vision Processor System Memory – 8GB LPDDR4 Storage – 16GB […]

Turing Pi V2 mini-ITX cluster board takes four Raspberry Pi CM4 or NVIDIA Jetson SoMs

Turing Pi v2 mini-ITX cluster board

The Turing Pi V2 is a mini-ITX cluster board that builds on the  Turing Pi mini-ITX cluster board taking up to 7 Raspberry Pi Compute Modules introduced in 2019, but instead supports up to four Raspberry Pi CM4 (Compute Modules 4) or NVIDIA Jetson Nano/TX2 NX/Xavier NX SO-DIMM system-on-modules. The Turing Pi 2 board is equipped with two Mini PCIe sockets, two Gigabit Ethernet ports, two SATA III ports, four USB 3.0 ports, a 40-pin GPIO header, and a 24-pin ATX connector for power. Since board-to-board connectors – as found in Raspberry Pi Computer Module 4 – are not ideal for density, the company went with a design including 260-pin SO-DIMM connectors plus CM4 adapter boards, a design that allows them to also integrate other SoMs like the NVIDIA Jetson SO-DIMM modules. Turing Pi V2 specifications: SoM interface – 4x 260-pin SO-DIMM slot for up to four Raspberry Pi CM4 […]
