NanoTech Entertainment is preparing to launch Nuvola NP-1, and its commercial version Nuvola MP-C, an Android 4.2 set-top box powered by Nvidia Tegra 4 SoC with 2GB RAM and 16GB Flash, and capable of streaming 4K2K videos. The company also promised to upgrade the box to support HEVC (H.265). HP Unveils Slate 21 AIO Android PC and Tablet with a 21.5″ Touchscreen

Hewlett Packard has announced an all-in-one desktop PC in Beijing featuring a 21.5″ touch screen that ships with Android 4.2.2 instead of the usual (for dekstop PCs) Windows 8 operating system. It’s a concept we’ve seen before with devices such as Frontier FT103, but HP Slate 21 AIO is much more powerful with Nvidia Tegra 4 quad core cortex A15 against the TI OMAP4 used in the Frontier PC. Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 MDP Benchmarks

A few days ago, I saw some benchmark results showing Xiaomi M3 smartphone powered by Snapdragon 800 SoC getting a ridiculous score above 80,000 points in Antutu, but thought it was really odd, and it turned out to be a fake Antutu screenshot. The actual scores for Snapdragon 800, are much lower, yet one of the fastest mobile platform ever, according to benchmarks performed by Engadget, which hold of Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 Tablet and Smartphone MDPs. Engadget provided comparison of the benchmark for 12 devices, but I selected the 4 most powerful of the lot in the table below. Galapad Galaz is a Pyramidal Set-top Box

Up to now, the set-top box with the most innovative or weird design, depending on who you ask, was certainly Tronsmart Prometheus with its spaceship-like casing. Another Chinese company called Galapad may have gone a bit further with a device shaped like a pyramid with blue lights at the top and bottom. We don’t know much details about this media player, except it comes with HDMI output, RJ45 and mini USB connectors, an audio jack, and a microSD card. The company’s other designs (all tablets) are based on Nvidia Tegra SoCs, so it’s likely this one, if it’s ever sold, will also feature Nvidia Tegra 3 or 4 processor. Linux 3.9 Release

Linus Torvalds has announced the release of Linux Kernel 3.9: So the last week was much quieter than the preceding ones, which makes me suspect that one reason -rc7 was bigger than I liked was that people were gaming the system and had timed some of their pull requests for just before the release, explaining why -rc7 was big enough that I didn’t actually want to do a final release last week. Please don’t do that. Anyway. Whatever the reason, this week has been very quiet, which makes me much more comfortable doing the final 3.9 release, so I guess the last -rc8 ended up working. Because not only aren’t there very many commits here, even the ones that made it really are tiny and not pretty obscure and not very interesting. Nvidia Updates its Tegra Roadmap with Parker 64-Bit ARM SoC, Unveils Kayla CUDA Development Platform

Nvidia has given an update about the roadmap for its Tegra processor at the GPU Technology Conference in San Jose, California. Tegra 4 will still be followed by Logan (Tegra 5) as planned with a Kepler GPU and support for CUDA and OpenGL 4.3, but “Stark” has been replaced by “Parker” (Tegra 6) which will be the first 64-Bit Tegra processor based on Denver CPU, Maxwell GPU and make use of Finfet transistors. Logan will be available in 2014, and Parker should be available in 2015 with 100 times more performance than Tegra 2. With this kind of performance, the separation line between desktop and mobile processors will be gone. Nvidia also unveiled Kayla (“Logan’s girlfriend”), a development platform for CUDA and OpenGL based on Tegra 3 quad-core ARM processor and a Kepler GPU connected via a PCI express slot. Nvidia Tegra 4 Benchmarks on Tablet Reference Design

Mobile World Congress 2013 has just started. Nvidia is showcasing both a smartphone reference platform based on Nvidia Tegra 4i (Phoenix reference phone) and an unnamed tablet reference design with Tegra 4 during the event, and several Android benchmarks have been run on the platform including Antutu and Quadrant. The results in the quad-core Cortex A15 Tegra 4 are really impressive with over 36,000 in AnTuTu and 16,000 in Quadrant, which are the best scores ever reported (by far) on those two benchmarks, as the top score in Antutu achieved with an overclocked Galaxy Note 2 is just over 27,000, a phone like the HTC One X scores around 5,600… Android Police also ran two other benchmarks that can help to access web browsing performance: Vellamo (HTML5) and SunSpider. Open ARM GPU Drivers FOSDEM 2013 Video and Call to ARM Management

As I previously wrote, FOSDEM organizers are slowly uploading FOSDEM 2013 videos. One of the most interesting talk “Open ARM GPU Drivers” is now available. Luc Verhaegen has also written a recent blog post entitled “Hey ARM!” where he announces the release of the modified source for Quake 3 Arena demo, and asks ARM to join them in making an open source driver.
