UP Squared 2 is a compact single board computer powered by either an Intel Celeron N6210 or Pentium J6426 “Elkhart Lake” processor with up to 16GB RAM, 64GB eMMC flash, 4K capable HDMI and DisplayPort video outputs, two Gigabit Ethernet ports, and more. Slightly smaller than two business cards, the UP Squared 2 is an upgrade of the UP Squared SBC introduced in 2016 with Intel Celeron N3350 or Pentium N4200 “Apollo Lake” processor. The new board offers virtually the same features, except the two HDMI ports, have been replaced by one HDMI port, and one DisplayPort connector, the mini PCIe slot is gone in favor of an M.2 NVMe socket, the Altera FPGA has been removed, and the new system provides overall better specifications in terms of CPU/GPU performance. BMAX have relaunched their B3 Plus mini PC, aka MaxMini B3 Plus, with an upgraded Intel Celeron N5095 processor and a more distinctive design by having a novel way of accessing both the internal storage and memory together with being very lightweight in construction. BMAX kindly sent one for review and given the B3 Plus is similar to other mini PCs I’ve tested, I’m only going to take a cursory look at performance benchmarks and only whilst running Windows together with looking at the key features of this particular device. It’s not often we come across an Intel Xeon SBC, but that’s just what AAEON EPIC-TGH7 single board computer offers thanks to a choice of Intel Tiger Lake H processors up to the Xeon W-11865MRE octa-core/16-thread processor. So far, we had only written about Tiger Lake H-based COM Express and COM HPC modules from companies such as ADLink, Congatec, and Portwell, and the EPIC-TGH7 is the first proper SBC we’ve seen with the industrial processors. The last time we wrote about the ZOTAC ZBOX PICO PI336 mini PC it featured an Intel Celeron N4100 Gemini Lake processor, but the company appears to have launched an upgrade with an Intel Celeron N6211 Elkhart Lake processor instead. The new ZBOX PI336 PICO fanless mini PC also gets more storage up to 128GB eMMC flash, but the rest of the specifications remain pretty much the same with 4GB RAM, HDMI & DisplayPort video outputs, three USB ports, Gigabit Ethernet, WiFI, and Bluetooth, although some of the interfaces got a version bump for additional performance. GOLE1 was quite a unique mini PC when it launched in 2016 as it included a 5-inch touchscreen display. HIGOLE is now back with the GOLE1 Pro based on a similar design, but a slightly larger 5.5-inch touchscreen display, and much better specs suitable for 2022’s software and entry-level use cases. Alder Lake processors were first formally announced at the end of 2021 with the most powerful H-Series, followed by a range of Alder Lake Edge IoT processors, and in February, Intel officially launched Alder Lake P-Series and U-Series mobile hybrid processors which I had expected to find in several mini PCs by now. But apart from ASRock iBOX 1200 Series announcement, and leaks of the NUC 12 Studio Pro, I had not really seen any. But today, I found what looks like a mini PC with the Polywell Nano-U12P, but it’s instead marketed as an 8K digital signage player with a choice of Alder Lake P-series and U-series processors.
