We’ve reported about the first Amlogic S922X TV box – Beelink GT1-K – last week, and unsurprisingly more are coming starting with Ugoos AM6. The former appears to the passively cooled, but Ugoos AM6 will include a fan for cooling providing optimal performance for the new Amlogic processor. While we do not have photos of the enclosure so far, Ugoos share with us some pictures of the board and the specifications. ODROID-N2 GPU Drivers, Linux 5.0, and Impressive glmarks-es2 Score
ODROID-N2 was announced last February for $63 (2GB RAM), and $79 (4GB RAM), but Hardkernel was not quite ready to take orders at the time. One of the good news is that the 4GB RAM is now available for pre-order with shipping scheduled to start on April 3. Another good news is on the software side with Hardkernel having released the userland Mali-G52 Wayland driver. It does not work well with Linux 4.9 due to incomplete DRM implementation, but it goes work with Linux 5.0 plus some modifications as further discussed in the aforelinked forum thread. The screenshot above, courtesy of odroid forum member memeka , shows ODROID-N2 running Ubuntu 18.04 + Gnome3 + Linux 5.0 on top of Wayland with GPU drivers providing acceleration as shown by glmark2-es2-wayland test program. The benchmark results are pretty impressive:

Beelink GT1-K TV Box Features Amlogic S922X SoC, Android 9.0 OS
Amlogic S922 processor was first shown in roadmaps in early 2018, and since then we know there are at least two variants with Amlogic S922X and S922D processors both coming with Cortex A73 & A53 cores, and an Arm Mali-G52MP GPU, but the latter adds a Neural Network co-processor. So far the only hardware announced with Amlogic S922X was ODROID-N2 SBC, but since most Amlogic processors are primarily designed for TV box, it was just a question of time before we see some Amlogic S922X TV boxes hit the market, and the first model to surface is Beelink GT1-K “King” TV box running Android 9.0 OS. Amlogic S922D, A311D, and A311X AI Processors Feature a Neural Network Coprocessor
We already know Amlogic is preparing to launch a few new processors with Amlogic S922X Hexa-core Cortex-A73/A53 processor found in the upcoming ODROID-N2 board, as well as Amlogic A311D processor with a very similar features. At the time, I had been told A311 would include an NPU (Neural network Processing Unit) but with zero details. I still don’t have much details about the NPU inside A311D processor, except for performance of up to 5 TOPS (Trillion Operations Per Second). So it appears the same NPU will be found in Amlogic S922D processor that, based on the table above, has the exact same specifications as Amlogic S922X except for the extra Neural Network AI co-processor that delivers up to 2.5 TOPS (16-bit?) and 5.0 TOPS (8-bit?) Khadas VIM2 v1.4 SBC Gets Bluetooth 5, Thermal Improvements, a Larger SPI Flash
Announced in summer of 2017, Khadas VIM2 was the first Amlogic S912 development board, and I had the chance to review the board with a dual DTV tuner add-on board shortly after launch, eventually explaining how to use VIM2 as a live TV streaming server in Android. Shenzhen Wesion has however recently launched Khadas VIM2 v1.4 with various improvements they neatly describe in a PDF document. Phicomm N1 Android 7.1 TV Box Supports Multiple Linux Distributions
I like to look at new hardware platforms supported by Linux mainline, and recently covered MapleBoard MP130 SBC which I found in Linux 5.0 changelog. Today, I had a look at another device. Phicomm N1 is an Amlogic S905D powered TV box running Android 7.1 with a user interface geared towards to the Chinese market. Nothing that interesting so far, but a topic on Armbian forums made it more interesting as the box comes with a larger heatsink than most other cheap TV boxes, a 12V/2A power supply which should allow you to connect several USB hard drives, and potentially more importantly, it became popular among Chinese users, with the community releasing several Linux based distributions for the device including CoreELEC, LibreELEC, Alpine Linux, CentOS, Debian, Deepin, ArchLinux Arm, and more. Linus Torvalds has just released Linux 5.0: Ok, so the last week of the 5.0 release wasn’t entirely quiet, but it’s a lot smaller than rc8 was, and on the whole I’m happy that I delayed a week and did an rc8. It turns out that the actual patch that I talked about in the rc8 release wasn’t the worrisome bug I had thought: yes, we had an uninitialized variable, but the reason we hadn’t immediately noticed it due to a warning was that the way gcc works, the compiler had basically initialized it for us to the right value. So the same thing that caused not the lack of warning, also effectively meant that the fix was a no-op in practice. ODROID-N2 Amlogic S922X SBC Coming in April for $63 and Up
Due to RAM supply issues, Hardkernel canceled RK3399 based ODROID-N1 board last year, and decided to replace it with ODROID-N2 using a “newer SoC .. with faster CPU/GPU cores and native DDR4 support”, but they did not provide any details about the processor, and we speculated it could be the upcoming Amlogic S922X processor.
