Wibtek TJ1800G & TJ1900G “Thin mini-ITX” Boards with Bay Trail-D Processors for DIY All-in-One Computers and mini PCs

Intel has made great progress in the low cost low power computer space thanks to Bay Trail based mini-ITX motherboards such as MSI J1800i and BIOSTAR J1800NH both with an Intel Celeron J1800 processor (10 W TDP) and selling for around $60, or the latest Intel NUC mini PC selling for $140 with a 7.5W TDP Celeron N2820. One of the requirements of mini-ITX specifications suggest boards to feature 20- or 24-pin “original ATX” power connectors, which requires a an ATX PSU, and adds to costs. One reader pointed out that another type of mini ITX boards dubbed “thin mini-ITX” do not require an ATX power supply, and could be powered by a standard 12V power supply just like Intel NUC. Thin mini-ITX Standard Thin mini-ITX has been defined by Intel a couple of years ago, and target the DIY market for All-in-One PC where you can buy an AIO […]

ICE xPC Modular x86 Computer Is as Small as a Smartphone (Crowdfunding)

Until now, if we talked about mini PCs in stick form factor that always meant some ARM or MIPS processor were powering the devices. Intel is not yet into this type of form factor, but with ICE xPC (Indiegogo), you can now find an x86 computer module with the CPU, RAM, and SSD as well as connectivity modules and sensors into a box as small and thin as a smartphone. ICE xPC will also support other low power processors including Core i5 processor and/or ARM SoCs if the concept is gaining traction. ICE xPC modular computer specifications: SoC – Intel Bay Trail 4-cores Atom processor with Intel HD graphics System Memory – 4GB RAM Storage – 64 GB SSD Connectivity – 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi module + Bluetooth module Camera – 720p Sensors – Accelerometer, Gyro sensor Power Supply – 20 Watts. Energy used claimed: between 3 and 11 Watts. Dimensions […]

Asus Transformer Book Duet Hybrid Laptop / Tablet Runs Android and Windows Simultaneously

During CES 2014 pre-opening keynote, Intel showcased a laptop capable of instantaneously switch between Windows and Android by the press of a button, and separately, AMD also announced dual OS support with Android and Windows 8 running simultaneously on a computer thanks to a version of Bluestacks optimized for AMD APUs.  So we can expect several hybrid laptop + tablet computers, let’s call it a “lapblet”, running Windows 8 and Android this year, and one of them is Asus Transformer Book Duet. Transformer Book Duet (TD300) Specifications: Processor – Intel Core i7 processor GPU – Intel HD graphics System Memory – 4GB DDR3L 1600 RAM Storage: Tablet – 128GB SSD + Up to 64GB Micro SD card Dock – Up to 1TB HDD Display – 13.3-inch Full HD IPS multi-touch display Connectivity – 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 + EDR, and 10/100M Ethernet Camera – Front-facing HD camera with a built-in […]

Rii Mini i28 Do-it-all RF Remote Can Be Used as a Backlit QWERTY Keyboard, a TouchPad, an Air Mouse, a Gamepad, and an Headset

There are many 2.4 GHz “magic” remote, often called Air mice, to use with Android devices, or computer mainly such as Mele F10, or Measy RC11.  They usually comes with a qwerty keyboard, and a gyro that allow you to move the mouse pointer on the screen by moving the remote around, and are much more convenient that a standard IR remote with Android mini PCs. Newer models such as Mele F10 Pro often include a microphone, and a jack to connect an headphone, but Rii Mini i28 is going a few steps further, some may even say a few steps too far, as it features a backlit QWERTY keyboard, Air mouse function, a microphone and a headphone jack, as well as a touchpad, and some of controls that make it look like a gamepad (No analog though). Rii Mini i28 “thing” specifications: Keyboard – 70 Keys QWERTY keyboard with […]

AIRTAME is a Wi-Fi Display HDMI Dongle for Windows, Linux, and Mac (Crowdfunding)

Earlier today, I wrote about Tronsmart T1000 Mirror2Tv, a $30 Wi-Fi Display adapter that can mirror the display from Android, iOS, and Windows devices and computers to your HDMI TV via Wi-Fi, and I’ve been informed a somewhat similar device called AIRTIME had a very successful Indiegogo campaign albeit selling for over $100 including shipping, and with shipping expected for May 2014, so I decided to have a closer look. AIRTIME specifications have not been fully release, but we still get some information: Processor – ARM @ 1GHz System Memory – 512MB RAM Wi-Fi – 802.11 b/g/n Video Output – HDMI 1.4 with CEC and MHL – Up to 1080p resolution Audio – 2 channel stereo with variable bit rate, work in progress for surround sound 5.1 support USB – 1x micro USB for power, 1x USB host port for accessories Power Consumption – About 500ma @ 5V via MHL […]

Micro Python Brings Python to MCU Boards and Robots (Crowdfunding)

Micro Python is an implementation of the Python programming language, written from scratch and optimized to run on micro-controllers such as the ones based on ARM Cortex-M cores. Damien George, the developer, also designed the Micro Python board powered by STMicro STM32F405 Cortex M4 MCU for the purpose of running Micro Python. Even though in this project, the star of the show is not the board itself, as Micro Python will run on other platform once it’s open source, let’s have a look at the hardware specifications: MCU – STMicro STM32F405RG @ 168MHz with 1MB flash, 192KB RAM, and an FPU. External storage – Micro SD slot 30 general purpose I/O pins – 5 USARTs, 2SPIs, 2 I2C busses, 14 ADC pins, 2 DAC pins, 2CANs, and 4 servo ports with power. Built-in USB interface Misc – 4 LEDs, a user switch, a reset switch, a real-time clock, and a 3-axis […]
