MNT Pocket Reform open-source 7-inch modular laptop launched on Crowd Supply

The MNT Pocket Reform, a smaller version of the MNT Reform laptop, with a 7-inch display has just launched on Crowd Supply with an NXP i.MX8M Plus system-on-module, but also compatible with an NXP Layerscape LS1028A module, Raspberry Pi CM4, Pine64 SOQuartz, and an AMD Kintex-7 FGPA module. The open-source modular laptop also comes with a 128GB eMMC flash, 8GB RAM, WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity on-module, an optional 1TB NVMe SSD, a backlit 60-key mechanical keyboard with an optical trackball and four buttons, a micro HDMI port to connect an external display, a few USB ports, and Ethernet through an ix industrial connector. What comes after Qualcomm Robotics RB3, RB5, and RB6 platforms? Apparently, it’s Qualcomm Robotics RB1 and RB2 platforms powered by Qualcomm QRB2210 and Qualcomm QRB4210 processors respectively and optimized for cheaper, smaller robots with lower power consumption. But Qualcomm is one of the lamest companies known to man, so they did not include any photos when announcing the Robotics RB1 and RB2 platforms, so I’ll focus this post on Lantronix Open-Q 2210RB and 4210RB system-in-packages (SiP) based on the same processors, as well as the Open-Q RB1/RB2 development kit. Digi ConnectCore MP13 SoM with STM32MP13 MPU embeds Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.2 module

Digi International ConnectCore MP13 system-on-module (SoM) is powered by the just-announced STMicro STM32MP13 Cortex-A7 microprocessor and integrates a pre-certified WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.2 module for applications in the medical, smart energy, and industrial sectors. The module is also equipped with up to 1GB RAM and 1GB SLC NAND flash, and exposes I/Os through LGA pads and/or castellated holes with interfaces such as dual GbE, USB 2.0, I2S and SPDIF for audio, CAN FD, analog inputs, and more. $85+ NanoPi R6C 2.5GbE router and SBC gets M.2 NVMe SSD socket

FriendlyElec has come up with a low-cost version of the NanoPi R6S with the NanoPi R6C router/SBC based on the same Rockchip RK3588S octa-core Cortex-A76/A55 processor but offering just one Gigabit Ethernet port and one 2.5GbE port, and adding an M.2 NVMe SSD socket for storage. Hailo-15 quad-core AI Vision processor delivers up to 20 TOPS for Smart Cameras

Hailo-15 is a family of AI Vision processors for smart cameras that deliver up to 20 TOPS of AI inference and are able to process deep-learning AI applications such as video analytics. The Hailo-15 appears to build upon the earlier Hailo-8 AI processor with up to 26 TOPS and more limited computer vision capability. The new AI vision processor integrates a quad-core Cortex-A53 CPU sub-system, can handle 4K video streams, and features “advanced computer vision engines”. STMicro introduces cost-optimized STM32MP13 Cortex-A7 microprocessor

STMicroelectronics’ STM32MP13 1 GHz single-core Arm Cortex-A7 microprocessor series is the latest addition to the Linux-capable STM32MP1 family, with a cost-optimized design that does without the Cortex-M4 real-time core found in the original STM32MP15 series, while still offering Ethernet, CAN FD, camera and display depending on the specific SKU: STM32MP131, STTM32MP133, or STM32MP135. STM32MP131 The STM32MP131 is a single-core Cortex-A7 core clocked at 650 MHz or 1GHz with Ethernet connectivity and is the most cost-effective part of the new STM32MP13 series.
